Black sheep of my family....
#22
Past (all more than a year):
Germany - Belgium - Kosovo - Afghanistan - Sierra Leone - South Sudan - Chad - Central African Republic - Montenegro - Spain - Sudan - Senegal - Burkina Faso - Myanmar.

For the moment and future.
Spain (me), Senegal (my wife), France (kids university)

Future:
We split 9 months Spain with 3 months Senegal (the apartment is so cheap -120 EUR - we just keep it). Its in walking distance from Bissau border (7 KM to Sao Domingo -> 50 KM to Varela, a simple small village on the beach, a real paradise..). You can walk there - will take you two days (sleep in a small village). And one day I will walk from Spain to Senegal. Besides this - lots to discover in Spain... just great... mountains, desert, beach, small villages in white, good food, nice people... So, I guess, my decision is taken.

I am attracted to adventure, but always take care not to overdo it.

yeah; our minds are pre-programmed to get fearful.
Travel involves risk, lots of sorts of risk.

If you're concerned about germs and little critters biting you especially, maybe stay home. lol for ex., I was bitten in the eye by a tick mymph while walking in the rainforest in Australia. My immune system freaked out, but after a few days I was okay again. Having the stradiness to hold still while it was plucked out of my eye with tweezers was intense.

If one has a sense of this all being an adventure - all of life I mean - then adding in some measure of extra adventure means taking the not so good with the spectacular. I think that is what @Auri was saying too? 😊
And of course same things can happen in your own "backyard" as they say...your story reminded me of tick found behind my ear during a rare "fancy" haircut at a salon as a kid---operator thought was lice- freaked out all patrons mostly getting blue rinse and they sent me on my way with shampoo in my hair...lol...

Well, one thing for sure: in my family we have two types of persons. My uncle and myself - always travelling and working abroad.
My sister, mother and others have never left the small village in Bavaria where they were living their whole life.
Is this choice, genetic, character? Not sure. Travelling is now more dangerous than it was 20 or 30 years ago. When I was in Kabul, I had my own house and car and was free to go where I wanted to. Later all had to live on a compound (like in prison) and going out only in armored car. Not very nice.

But Afghanistan is a nice country:
