I personally don't use any lotions, but in terms of recommendations, it's really an individual gig based on a trial and error basis. No idea what products you have tried/used, but SLS-free are advisable. As well as those with a good liq paraffin content, maybe consider products that colloidal oatmeal such as Aveeno or Aproderm products. As well as locking in the moisture, it has good anti-inflammatory properties, and can help to soften and soothe dry itchy skin.

I am partial to Aveeno products. I use their hand and body lotion and their face lotion. Aveeno has a good price point (some lotions are outrageously expensive!) and does the job.

My current problem is dry and damaged fingernails due to a foolish overuse of 100% acetone polish remover. It may take months for them to recover. Wah

I don't use much lotion usually. Growing up, we used to have Bath & Body Works products (including lotion) around the house, and I liked the smells. Idk if the products are good, but there's a nice variety of different scents to choose from. The one thing I didn't like is that my dad always would make me help him pick out the products for my mom at the store when we went Christmas shopping at the mall, and sometimes I would get overstimulated from how crowded the mall would be and all the different smells at once.

I'm using lotion right now though because I have a healing tattoo. The artist said said just some kind of sensitive skin lotion and preferably unscented products, so I found a small bottle of some kind of generic moisturizing lotion at CVS that's apparently comparable to Cetaphil but is just CVS Health brand. It was cheaper, and another nice thing was that it was one of the few products on the skincare shelf that wasn't locked up, so I could just grab it and buy it. The store I got it from is right downtown and locks up so much of its inventory. It even had locks on the drink fridges for a while. I stopped going when they did that since I was usually just grabbing snacks and drinks, and there were easier places to get them, but when I went a few weeks ago, the drinks were accessible again

Living in Colorado there is no such thing as Not using lotion. It's just as important as brushing your teeth. If you don't use it, you start to look like the desert floor. Out of everything i have used, Gold Bond seems to have the largest selection of useful types. From the overnight repair and diabetic lotion, to their itch formula to help with the dry skin itch.
i do love and use bath and body works lotions as well, as a special treat myself moment now n again.

What kind of lotion(s) do you use?
I have all different kinds, hard to choose just one.

Any favorite brands?
Nothing in particular, I usually base it on scent and how well it moisturizes.

What would you recommend for dry hands? (I have a personal interest in this one!)
Well I have eczema and things like Vaseline, Aquaphor, and unscented lotions seem to work best.

Have you ever tried O'Keefe's Working Hands? i believe it's green and it has a Vaseline type base to it. my in-laws loved it for their Eczema.

@Angie My current problem is dry and damaged fingernails ...

Have you tried putting a thick lotion on into the nails and cuticles at night before bed?

I find that living on the coast my skin and hair are much more moisturized, especially compared to being in Montana where I had to put lotion on twice a day. But I sitll put moisture lotion on my face and neck, and my favourite is a fragrance free lotion from a line they call The Ordinary, from The Abnormal Beauty Company. Their face wash with plant-sourced squalane is great too.

Cool theme, thanks for opening the cafe for today Angie (and for all the other cafes too, even though I say ty every time I reply anyway lol) ;)

My answers to the q’s.

1. Lotions I use - Not many or often overall (sorry lol) cos I find most to be too oily and pore-clogging. But some I used in the past was Body Shop body butter (loved the cherry scented one, and also strawberry and orange, all their scents are quite nice imo, except coconut cos I don’t like the smell (or taste lol) of coconuts).

I think I might have used a vaseline based body lotion before too, been a lot of years since I used any though.

2. What I’d recommend for dry hands - Hmm, well I have used hand lotion for dry hands before, haven’t had a dry hands problem for many years thankfully (before I realized the true importance of wearing gloves in the winter, lol). When I did get dry hands then I used a vaseline based one, not sure if they still make it or not.

Think I also used a Dove one which smelled great but was a bit on the runny side which I didn’t really like. Maybe they improved that over the years though, not sure.

I have very dry and cracked heels on my feet so I sometimes use a Gold Bond foot cream for them, or just vaseline to help keep the moisture locked in more.

Good luck with finding a good/effective cream for your hands :)
