1) Who was the first person you remember speaking to on SF? Was it that persons first impression that made you stay?
I really can’t remember who I spoke to First, It wasn’t a particular person that made me stay, it was more of a ‘what have I got to lose’ kind of attitude. Time went on and @AFlower & @may71 became 2 of the people that made a huge impression on me and showed me that not everyone is bad.

2) When you joined SF, did you think you would make it until today? Reasoning?
No! I didn’t think I would last an hour let alone a year!

3) I really wanted to make a thread on this but didn't want to sound like a total fool, for those of us not from the US/Canada, what is the difference between thanksgiving and Christmas, without the religious background what is done differently? Are gifts exchanged, a turkey cooked?
I was only talking about this the other day and I’m clueless!

4) Who would be doing the partying/decorating if SF were a village? Who would be Mr and Mrs clause?
Not me, I hate this time of year.
Sorry lol

Thanks for the tag @Petal :D

1) Who was the first person you remember speaking to on SF? Was it that persons first impression that made you stay?

@Walker was super cool when I first got here (still is). He’s the reason I’m able to be so active on here, even if I’ve been a little more depressed recently and unresponsive.

2) When you joined SF, did you think you would make it until today? Reasoning?

Yeah, I joined not suicidal, but anticipating I would be as the year went on. It’s always a cycle with me and the winter really makes me miserable. The funk has been hitting me hard recently too...

4) Who would be doing the partying/decorating if SF were a village? Who would be Mr and Mrs clause? Well, I think we all know that one ;) Who would be bringing the Champagne? Feel free to have a little fun with this question for the lol's :D Who would be kissing under the mistletoe

I don’t like being in charge but I do love champagne and making other people drunk with me. I have expensive taste so I hope you nerds enjoy Veuve Rose!!!
i like champagne, perseca, spelling? @bag_of_struggles you're llittle bat avi is adorable.

Hello, everyone! Best wishes to you all today.

1) My memory is not the best so I may have forgotten someone, but the first person I do remember talking to is you @Petal!

2) I joined recently and wasn't really in an urgent crisis or anything, so I figured I would make it at least until today.

3) Both involve a family dinner with turkey. Christmas has gifts, Thanksgiving does not.

4) I don't really know you all enough yet to answer this. Hopefully, I get to know everyone a bit more! I think we'd all be partying, though.

Hi @Petal and all members of SF *grouphug

1) Who was the first person you remember speaking to on SF? Was it that persons first impression that made you stay?
@Aurelia first spoke to me and we talked a bit. Yes, I know that I didn't care that much of being part of a forum (they've always felt quite a "cold" environment to me, full of weird people lol), so I came back the next day because of her, she was so nice to me and smart.

2) When you joined SF, did you think you would make it until today? Reasoning?
No, I had a plan I was going to stick to before my 25th birthday, but that's not something I shared here because my goal was to help the most people possible in these few weeks. As I got to know a few members, I had to come back almost everyday, and I was pushing the date for a week, for a month, then the next month, until it was January 2019 when things started going in the right direction for me.

3) I really wanted to make a thread on this but didn't want to sound like a total fool, for those of us not from the US/Canada, what is the difference between thanksgiving and Christmas, without the religious background what is done differently? Are gifts exchanged, a turkey cooked? What is the actual difference on the day itself
Is this a test? :p Christmas has its own traditions in every country/culture, the food and the customs are not the same. We celebrate the Christmas Eve on the 24th, and the second day of Christmas on the 26th (also my mom's birthday). On the 24th, in my family, we start by exchanging pieces of Christmas wafer (the "host") and wishes for the year to come with each member of the family. We actually have fish, carp or herring I think (well, not me), and other meals I don't know the name of, but no turkey. After the dinner we open the presents that we had put under the Christmas tree. We don't do anything special during the day. We have another Christmas dinner (earlier, around 2pm) on the 26th, the second day of Christmas and my mom's birthday.
Other silly things about our Christmas : we are supposed to try a little bit of every meal of the Christmas table (never!). Christmas songs are a thing, usually on TV. We don't have alcohol on the 24th, but we do on the 26th. My grandma also believes that animals start talking at midnight. lol

From what I've seen in movies, Thanksgiving is also a dinner with family, but it seems to be about friends as well? I think it's always a Thursday (but different for the US and Canada) and there has to be turkey. I like the idea behind this celebration, and it doesn't seem to be a commercial thing at all, I don't know about any special decorations or customs. If it was commercial, trust me, Europe would've made a thing out of it too. I don't think you give gifts on Thanksgiving. You're thankful for what you've already got and the people you love.

4) Who would be doing the partying/decorating if SF were a village? Who would be Mr and Mrs clause? Well, I think we all know that one ;) Who would be bringing the Champagne? Feel free to have a little fun with this question for the lol's :D Who would be kissing under the mistletoe?
My rl friends call me the queen of organization, because I like to organize special events we do, so I'd love to manage the party and the decorations. *dance1 @Innocent Forever would help me with that, and @Freya as soon as she's finished kissing @Walker under the mistletoe. I think @Ash600 would make a great Santa, but if we're out of budget for a costume, we'll have to settle with the one we've already got, @1964dodge . When Santa's had too much vodka, we'll let a responsible Mrs Santa deal with the kids, @Petal herself.

@OfLoveAndDeath will bring the Champagne and make sure everyone's glass is full. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say who else would be kissing under the mistletoe, so I'll wait until I make the cocktails to reveal that. @bag_of_struggles will cook for us! I'll let @Aurelia choose the playlist. @Walker will entertain the crowd with his best dance moves. @Sunspots will illuminate the room with her smile, and @Witty_Sarcasm will make sure everyone feels welcome! You're all invited!
PS. We'll need more cooks and drink agents, so please send your applications by PM. lol

Hello SF 'folks and welcome to the cafe. The seats are warmed up for you, the 4am munchies are here and the lights are dimmed for that Sunday morning hangover that some may have *bleh!

I have some weird questions for you today, its nearly 4am, leave me alone *hiding lol

@lastlegs @Shade. @1964dodge @GMody @All These Years @bag_of_struggles @NeveragainBread @Walker @Witty_Sarcasm @Auri
well it was sure easy getting from yesterdays cafe to todays! just walk through those revolving doors and presto its sunday! so now i’m back again and thanks again Petal. Also thanks @Kiwi2016 for the tag. now to answer these questions:

1) Who was the first person you remember speaking to on SF? Was it that persons first impression that made you stay? i had a delayed reaction when i joined because i didnt realize or remember that i had joined in april two and a half years ago until september when i was in another very bad place. but i do remember having been greeted by a few people once i started thinking. i also changed my username to this one i have now so there was some kind of PM message talk i guess... could it have been you Petal? but what i really remember was on one good morning, meeting @Innocent Forever in chat. she was off to work actually at the time, and seemed kind of friendly even though she was in a rush, which to me up to that point was really kind of unexpected and nice (based on my previous support sites experiences) so a thanks is in order if i never said it.

2) When you joined SF, did you think you would make it until today? Reasoning? i don’t think i gave the future a thought. i was just kicked off a site and had a bad hospital experience so i was just trying to keep my head above water.

3) I really wanted to make a thread on this but didn't want to sound like a total fool, for those of us not from the US/Canada, what is the difference between thanksgiving and Christmas, without the religious background what is done differently? Are gifts exchanged, a turkey cooked? What is the actual difference on the day itself.

thanksgiving is a special day to eat a bird that is naturally so dry it is like eating wood but you have to say its great just the same. fortunately there is stuffing which undoes the turkey damage. my christmases are from the perspective of an atheist upbringing with a lot of jewish background on both sides and some traditional russian christian background as well. we all enjoyed decorating the tree and gift wrapping and then gift opening. i think the dinner was ham which i never liked. there were gifts some i loved some i secretly hated though how secret could it have been if i spent time moping around as a result? but there were lots of delicious other edibles and christmas always ushered in newyears so the celebration lasted a while

4) Who would be doing the partying/decorating if SF were a village? I nominate @Walker for this.

Who would be Mr and Mrs clause? i nominate @Walker for this too. sorry Walker, i just didn’t know who else to suggest.

Well, I think we all know that one ;) Who would be bringing the Champagne? this i am not sure about but maybe everyone could bring a little and we could all grab a glass and a good moment. Feel free to have a little fun with this question for the lol's :D Who would be kissing under the mistletoe 😍 obviously you know who would be doing that! No? or... or... or... and i do have specifice people in mind and i bet they know too right? happy upcoming holidays everyone. a whole bunch of em. *et

thank you for opening the café and inviting me. I hope you have a great day.

1. the first member i met: i think it was @Witty_Sarcasm or at least she was my first friend.
2. when i joined SF did i think i'd make it until today: no i came here by accident looking for ways to die, but SF sucked me in and saved me lol.
3. what a can of worms thanks a lot @Petal lol. thanksgiving is a day to give thanks for what you have. we all have issues but we all have something to be thankfull for. it usually includes turkey and all the fixings but people serve different things with the turkey.

and Christmas was a religious holiday and still is for me. but a lot of non-christians celebrate christmas now since it's starting to be non-religious. we do give and recieve gifts. but it is better to give than recieve. of course we have a tree and decoration. and most of the world recognizes it as a time of peace and goodwill if they celebrate it or not.
4. hopefully everyone would share in the partying and decorating. and i probably would have to be santa since i look like him, maybe i am him lol. and @Petal would have to kiss santa under the mistletoe for punishment for putting me through these questions lol...mike

This looks like a really fun thread - I love the questions!!!

I have to run to a pilates class (that I'm not changed for yet and really have to leave in a couple of minutes, but been online.....) so I hope to answer these tomorrow. My sister is on my laptop a lot nowadays for a programme that she couldn't download on hers so I've not really been on here, so hopefully I'll have time later tonight or tomorrow to just be on here. Looking forward to reading this thread!!

Happy Sunday to y'all!!!!

I hope you got some sleep...

1) Who was the first person you remember speaking to on SF? Was it that persons first impression that made you stay? I really don't remember. I know that @Zambee123 @Ash600 @Sunspots @Walker @nobodyknows71 @Charlene joined around the same time, and they were definitely a part of the reason I stayed around here. @Freya was on chat a lot then too. Can't recall who/what else.

2) When you joined SF, did you think you would make it until today? Reasoning? Not at all. I knew when I'd live until, and that was a couple of years ago.

3) I really wanted to make a thread on this but didn't want to sound like a total fool, for those of us not from the US/Canada, what is the difference between thanksgiving and Christmas, without the religious background what is done differently? Being that I'm not from the US I can't answer that.

@Kira would have been decorating.... I'd love to decorate!!!! @Auri I'll definitely join you with that :) @Fleurise @Raven would be awesome too. And whoever else wants to have fun. I think @Aurelia would help make it not too glittery. @Angie would hang some tapestries.
@Lux will bring the champagne @JmpMster would bring some waiters and waitresses along to glam the place up. @betteroffunknown and @DowntheRabbitHole will advise us on placements of everything.

Thank you for the tag Innocent Forever! ^_^

1. I think it might have been Petal....I'm not sure....But everyone who replied to my first post, certainly made me feel welcome. Seeing how friendly, caring and supportive everyone was around the forum, was a big reason why I decided to stay <3

2. Nope. I've never had a specific plan in place but I certainly didn't see myself being alive for long. Guess I'm stronger than I thought!

3. We don't have Thanksgiving in the UK. Christmas and Thanksgiving seem so similar to me too lol

4. I don't think I know anyone well enough to answer this question...I'm still so nervous talking online!

Believe it or not I first came here I think @total eclipse talked me out of doing myself in and there was a guy -I assume a guy named JimK who was a moderator but I really didn't get much out of SF except I survived. Then I dropped away for a while until my divorce and the loneliness set in along with the suicidal thoughts again. Then for a while I just vented - my therapist moved away and I got to know people here and now I check in mostly to offer support and see how others are doing. Yes I have bad times but I don't get depressed as much as before.

My thoughts are aligned with @1964dodge wrt Thanksgiving and Christmas. I won't get any gifts this year -maybe it doesn't matter I don't need or want anything - but I would like to give people gifts.

I remember WooWoo embracing me from the beginning last December. Dodge and Lane were a presence as well in the beginning if memory serves.
My mind was in that relentless place of having to make it from hour to hour a year ago and I was looking for suicide options when I stumbled into SF. I definitely did not think I would make it into 2019 and here it is approaching 2020.
As far as the holidays, I don't do well through them so I try and ignore it mostly....although this year I did just volunteer to go to a geriatric rehab center on Thanksgiving day to hang out for a few hours with the clients who don't have family. It happens to be the same place my father was in for awhile during the last year of his life....we'll see.

1) tbh, I’m not sure who spoke to me first, or who I spoke to. ??? Several members who were here back then have moved on to other things in life because life got better for them. :) Others have stayed as their life improved/went up and down, to continue helping members . :)

2) I lived minute to minute for quite a while. Not sure if I even thought about a “future.” The members at SF provided a haven for the ups and downs I went through. And also, hearing others’ situations and through encouraging them to live, I began to see my own situation in a new light. :)

3) Thanksgiving and Christmas for me are associated with family getting together for a big meal. In US, Thanksgiving is in November and in Canada, Thanksgiving is in October. Thanksgiving in both US and Canada seems to center on gratitude for family, friends, harvest, food, shelter. I have not exchanged gifts at Thanksgiving; we do that at Christmas.

4) @Petal, thank you for offering to do all the work this year! *blehLet’s party everyone!! *bounce(@Petal - you were offering, right? *hysterical)

1. The first person I remember speaking to (and this was a pretty long time ago now...like 2010 or 2011) was @Freya When I first came here, I had a plan to kill myself, just like many others who first come here. I was a lot angrier back then, at myself, at my family, at people and life in general. And @Freya , bless her heart, became a true friend and made me want to stick around. Eventually, I threw away the method I had stashed in my closet, and decided that life was worth living.

2. There was a time when I never thought I'd even make it to see 21. Now, I'm 30, and granted, life isn't great at the moment, but I'm hanging in there and not planning to kill myself anymore.

3. In the US, Thanksgiving is traditionally celebrated by making a big dinner/lunch for the family, with turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, maybe mac and cheese and yams, etc. No gifts are usually exchanged, though. But Christmas, families usually wake up early in the morning and start opening gifts that they've placed under the tree for each other. A lot of people like to make a special breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Dinner often involves something like ham and several different sides, depending on preference.

4. Of course, @Walker and @Freya would be Mr. and Mrs. Claus. And I could see either @Ash600 or @Auri bringing the alcohol. :P

Aww. Thank you, sweetheart. I'm glad that I made you want to come back. I decided to message and welcome you because based on your username at the time, you seemed like someone who would have similar interests to mine, and turned out that I was spot on with that. We both like metal and Norse mythology, among other things. You're a very integral part of SF now, and very loved by many, so don't you ever go anywhere. 💕
