Hello folks, I hope you are doing as well as can be.

I was thinking of weekend traditions.

When I was young, I had a friend whose family went to the pancake house every Saturday morning and were gracious enough to invite me. It was a wonderful tradition.

What about the Sunday roast dinner in the UK? @Butterfly posted a picture of one once and I was delighted at the wonderful foods presented.

I've mentioned food related stuff, but could be anything, a special newspaper, a trip to the gym, a run on the beach, coffee with friends.

So I was just wondering about traditions around the world and thought I'd ask.

I used to go to church some Sundays, been thinking of doing this again. But for me, Sunday is a day for rest and sort of non-critical projects, or just doing whatever feels restorative. Saturdays sometimes I like to clean and reflect. Not that I'm particularly consistent but that's what weekend feels like to me. It's also the time I procrastinate as much as during week but am excused for doing so lol

I suppose for me it's having the time to be able to go for a long, head-clearing run.

I currently don't have any traditions that I observe, but I have good memories of Sunday mornings, when I would get a large specialty coffee, and the Sunday edition of the newspaper, then spread it on the floor, and leisurely read a lot of it. I suppose there are still print versions available, but not as common as they were. Streaming information just isn't the same

I currently work every other weekend, so it's hard to have anything special every weekend. But I do like to go watch soccer games at the pub when they're on, which is very often a weekend thing.
When I was younger, I used to go to my taekwondo class on Saturdays, and we'd listen to the quiz show Wait Wait Don't Tell Me on NPR on the way home. Sometimes we'd also go shopping at Costco and get frozen yogurt for lunch.

As a child, the weekends meant hiking and camping with my father.
As my children were growing up, Saturdays were for relaxing and recovering from the week's activities. Sunday's were for puppet practices and performances. Was wonderful time to spend together and we grew extremely close because of it.
Now... No traditions... Just work.

Never had much “traditions” (weekend or otherwise, lol) growing up, no. Family has been broken since I was 6 years old, so every other weekend from the time I was 6-14 years old I wasn’t even at the same house. From 14 on I thankfully was permanently with the parent (and my sis) that was where I preferred to live, and no longer did those every other weekend visits. We had no real “traditions” though, we were poor with no car and very few (pretty much “none”) friends, so there were no special drives, get togethers (dinner or any other meals either) or any other kinds of “social” things like that. I’m grateful for everything I did (and do) have though, me and my sis had what we needed (maybe a bit less so “psychologically”, but my mom did her best and is a damn strong survivor), our place was safe, clean, organized and we had a sweet kitty too. Overall we had a pretty good life I think

I do remember a few times at least getting invited over to my “friends” (in quotations, cos she wasn’t really all that “nice” of a friend overall, was pretty much just my “only” friend from gr 4-6 til I moved) place for Sunday dinner. I liked that a lot, despite her parents not really being very nice either. Her mom was sure a good cook though, and the food was always yummy. I envied that my friend always had that Sunday dinner every Sunday, but was glad I got to spend at least a few of them with them celebrating such a nice tradition like that.

It has been decades for me to have weekend traditions back when my grandparents were alive and living at this house, most Sundays my family as well as my aunt and uncle and cousins that live by would be to come here and whatever was just decided on the fly. Some fun ones then were hooking up the boat and going down the road to one of the lakes for boating, fishing and swimming or just puttering around doing things at the house. Nowadays for me it is more getting ready for the upcoming week working and resting up. Those younger days and years were quite good with having far less worries other than childhood and teen things with school and then later working.
