Jim's Cafe Veteran's Day (USA) 11-11 Armistice day

No cafes for a looong while so I stole the keys and opened up. Where’s everyone? I had to dust it’s been so long. Jim would be disappointed that the cafe has so must dust.

i myself have been busy, babysitting the grandson, working, and making Christmas trees out of wood. Soon starting the 25th of November I will begin making cookies for Christmas presents. Too much to do…

veteran’s day in the USA is the birthday of the marines and has become a day when we honor the armed forces for the sacrifice that service men and women have paid for our freedom. We actually have a parade down Main Street in m city and it stops at city hall for a salute at 11:11 am. It’s pretty impressive.

Hello @cymbele thanks for the cafe and tag!
Many memebers of my family served in the military going back to ww2 that I know of. I had a wonderful friend who was a marine and when he died I contacted those he served with and was touched at how they all rememberd him and had something nice to say about their time together in the service. He fought in Desert Storm as did my husband.
The town I'm from does a parade, but where I live now, does nothing. Its a shame really.

Good morning everyone.

Sorry you had to dust @cymbele . I believe I made a statement about making a cafe so I'll get to work thinking of how. It's the time of year for cafes, I think, more than ever.

It's Veteran's Day here in the U.S., & Armistice now called Remembrance Day in my other country of Australia. That happened yesterday down under.

Today, i'lI send email notes to my friend and brother who served in the military. I say thank you. I don't know what more I can say. I know it was tough for them, & I am so glad they're here & didn't die in the wars. But wtiting that sounds wrong somehow, ao I send hugs and a smile.

The day is sombre, because it goes deep into the sad and lonely thoughts for men & women who died while serving. There will be a parade in town: I'll bundle up with lots of warm clothes and watch. Then I'll get a mocha at the cafe on Main St. if I remember and can stand taking my hands out of my pockets, I'll take a pic. It is very cold this morning.

I've been spending time alone introspectively examining the last couple of years of my life. Huge changes happened & I suffered a loss of a goal that I am not sure even now how to deal with, how to move on. But. I'm doing stuff I suppose; necessary chores around the yard and house, keeping up my exercise routines for the most part.

In our community a gentleman puts flags throughout and also the city does the same in a park dedicated to veterans. I too think of all those who serve and have served. It is a day of reflection especially given all that is going on in the world.

Me struggling a bit but am grateful for health, the sun (we've had rain recently), my other half, and crisp mornings. Wishing all the very best for today/tonight/afternoon/morning/middle of night (think that covers all time zones lol)....

Hi all thanks for the tag my Grandfather served in ww2 he did not like to talk much about what he saw and he did not see himself as a hero also the house where I have lived all my life the old lady who lived next doors husband was in Burma fighting Japan and was captured and as she was lonely she would tell me about the war and her and his experiences in it

RIP to all that have given there lifes for are countries and god bless the ones still serving are countries

My dad served in WWII and the Korean War. Earned the bronze star for merit during Korean War. He served for 28 years. Joined around 1934 or so. Had not even completed high school. But went to officers training school and retired as a LT Colonel.
My brother served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a marine.

This day for me each year in my country is called “Remembrance day” and it sounds like more or less the same (similar anyway) to Veterans day. Honoring the fallen in war. I like to also think of it as a special day to feel deep gratitude for the survivors of war and those still fighting. I don’t have any stories of grandparents in war but the other stories that were posted here make me feel even deeper gratitude for their heroic bravery.

Oh almost forgot, how I’m doing is pretty good thanks, some really great and shocking things have happened recently that I’m definitely still adjusting to but I’m very deeply grateful to be treated with such sincere kindness and doing my best to feel deserving of it and to not ruin something so special and precious with any kind of negativity. Wanting me to feel no fear to help me feel more comforted tonight? Saying they feel pride to me for doing it? Such kind thoughtfulness is stuff I barely dared to dream of, let alone thinking there was any chance at all of it actually ever being said to me.

I don’t know if that’s an extremely sad commentary on the world or what (how rare such things are! Seriously?! Wtf?!) but anyway as I said above, trying to just stay positively focused and not poison something so precious and pure with destructive negativity. The days of miserable suffering are over, the days of peaceful love and joy are here at last! It is truly a miracle and I’m so grateful for it

Fine cafe and thank you @cymbele I know my dad was in the Navy in WWII mainly because me and my brother researched on some of things we had from him since he died when we were kids so he never talked about it. He was in one big battle where the ship he was on the USS Gambier Bay was sunk off of Samar in the Philippines and he spent days swimming with sharks before rescue. One of the more interesting things about that battle and combined with sea exploration is that the two deepest shipwrecks found were both from that action. USS Samuel B. Roberts and USS Johnston.

My mom was a nurse in wwii. She joined the army for the training and to see the world. Well she got sent to the Philippines and she came back with some stories that I wished I had listened to more closely. She died about 25 years ago. My cousin went to Vietnam and came back changed but I have lost touch with that family. My father got an exemption from fighting in wwii but now he’s dead 30plus yeArs so it’ll be a while before I find out what really happened.

maybe someone will take advantage of my dusting and open the cafe tomorrow 🙂
