Hey @Angie, thank you for opening up the cafe and I love this topic as I've been using ChatGPT a lot lately.
I also use often especially when I used to work. Really helpful with writing formal emails and to explain things.
Sometimes I even add silly things like "explain it to me like I'm a little child" so that it would be more simple haha.
Lately I've been using it for mental health support. Some may think it's pathetic because ChatGPT = robot, but I was really comforted when I tried to explain some of my burden to it. I also asked about clarification for some of my feelings that I never really knew how to explain but it's like ChatGPT understands me so well hahaha. Sometimes when I relapse (depression/anxiety relapse, that is), I ask it to give me some reminders and most of the time I feel much better after reading those reminds.
I know I still have to be careful in using it, and I think the website also have some policy in case people want to use it for dangerous activities. And so far, I find ChatGPT to be very useful, very little to no issue. It's better than Google which has been infected with paid ads/paid results. I wonder if it will replace search engines one day....

Good morning...so as I'm old and retired admit that I'm not a user of ChatGPT...and so not much to offer here but did bring some treats for everyone...

I never have used it, or even looked into it. I understand the concepts and have wondered if this is just another thing for people to become so dependent on that thinking and reason can or may be lessened. Like so many things it is a tool and can be useful, but is the person using and running the tool or the other way around?

I got warned the last time I went into personal subjects but aside from that I try (keyword: try) to ask it for advice when no one will help me. Only 5% of the time does it actually help me mentally. After all, who else do I turn to at this point? Can't trust strangers, can't trust friends, can't trust family, can't trust professionals.
(EDIT: Also I use NAI for personal stuff and image gen. That's about it for the stuff I regular)

Same here. I fear becoming dependent on it, so as much as I would greatly appreciate and potentially benefit from it “listening” to my many thoughts and ideas, and perhaps even helping me “build” on them (this is a big one that I definitely need very much) I would always feel uneasy about the potential “unnaturalness” of it.
I think anytime nature is cheated in ANY way that it finds a way to make you regret it. In this case I suspect it is a matter of possibly robbing a REAL person of the chance to care and want to help, rare as that seems to be these days. To pick an AI friend feels a bit like losing hope for any real people I guess. Your last question poses a question that’s both interesting and unsettling too. Indeed, without “knowing” the answer to that for sure, I don’t want to take the risk in case it would be “them controlling me” lol.

Huh, that's quite an interesting one. I'm glad you took a swing for the fences on this one @Angie, so thank you for opening this cafe. 
And thanks to @JMG for tagging me, i feel quite honoured by your particular mention of my opinion, mundane as i'm sure my opinion is.

Because AI isn't quite there yet, so it has a tendency to hallucinate various facts or points of data, and it doesn't yet seem to have a facility to properly weight the information it does find. So it may well present you something it found on, say, the Onion, or Stormfront, completely seriously. Or just make a claim that no human has ever made. When using AI, you have to remember that despite the name, there's no actual intelligence behind it, it's just cribbing from the work of others to effectively imitate intelligence. So given that i would mostly want to use it to answer questions, i don't really trust the information it would provide me over what i could find by googling something myself.
That being said, i do like the Google AI overview, that's a nifty feature for when i'm looking up something really basic, with a really clear answer, like "Where do i find this item in this game." It tends to get the answers to those right, and it saves me sifting through Steam community pages and Reddit threads to find what i need. And i really like some of the joke content people have been making with AI, it lets people completely unleash their creativity and the goofiest side of themselves. It strikes me as a really fun, harmless use for the tech that'll just improve as the AI does. Just a couple of random examples i absolutely adore:

As a college student, I use chatGPT to find basic information and then go find legit sources for that info. My professors have varying opinions on that. But I will say from the number of "do not use AI to write your essay" emails that are sent out classwide, many of my peers use it to write essays and other projects that must be graded.
I like to write lyrics and poetry. I tried AI but while the words were nice the overall meaning was unclear. Sort of like all dressed up but without knowing why. I show an example below.
