Here's a pic of an adolescent black bear that paid a visit to my campsite during a trip to Shenandoah NP a few years ago...

I think when you encounter a bear, they usually just want food. They often advise people to keep food outside your tent, or even suspended at a significant height if you're in bear country.

Now that the topic at hand is bears, it reminded me of a news article from many years ago about a forest ranger's rescue. He ran across a bear wandering around helplessly. The bear had a jar stuck to his mouth. Evidently the bear had tried to get at the honey inside the jar, but in that process, his mouth got stuck in that jar. The ranger of course extricated the bear from the jar. But you wonder how long the bear was wandering around like that.
