I've been thinking of going to grief counselling, but I feel scared to do so. I feel like it's something I want to bury inside than let out because it's so hard. After she died we, as a family, NEVER talked about her. Her birthday, the anniversary of her death were never talked about. It was like it was taboo.
As for not being accepted for being gay: this is the thing as far as I'm concerned. People are ignorant with what they aren't faced with directly. On TV, in 1990, when you saw things were just different you know? Sorry to say but they were. PLUS, that reality wasn't HER SON. Mothers love their sons, Brett. You don't have a definitive way of seeing this - no proof positive - but I'll tell ya, *I* think with 100% certainty that you would've come out to her and she might've flinched at it but would have been right there with you in the end, just like you dad is now.
