Empathy Only My brother's anniversary was last month

August 26th was another year since my brother's passing. I can't believe it's been this long, but it has. His death was in 2019, and it seems like time has flown by so fast. It's truly been hard on me, and this is why I'm so depressed. A lot of people dropped me as a friend due to his death, because I became so depressed and was crying so often. They just wanted me to move on, but they don't know how I feel.

When it happened, I felt more alone than before. That's when I knew I needed therapy and I'm glad I did. I had anxiety attacks throughout the month, and I picked up smoking again. So I'm planning to quit, but the anxiety made it so overwhelming for me. The moment I began having anxiety attacks, I knew why it was happening, due to his death and how tragic his death was. So many people tell me to get over it, but his death was by suicide and it has completely changed me as a person. I lost my best friend, someone who I admired and someone I miss every single day. I know not many people will understand or know what to say, and that's okay, but it's been really hard on me. Sometimes I feel so alone, but I keep going on regardless. I guess I just wanted to get this out, to be heard and understood.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I have a brother too and it would devastate me to lose him. I'm even more sorry to hear that some people dropped you because they couldn't handle your grief - it says more about them than you. Glad that therapy helped a little.

In my experience people never "get over" a loss - they just learn to move forward but the hole is always there. *hug10 I lost my best friend (sudden and unexpected) and my Dad (expected but still unfair and I still miss him and it was 20+ years ago).

Sending you healing wishes and warmth,
Lauryn

I'm sorry that this hurts so much.

Easy for them to say. The fact that you were so close to him and the way that he died, it's understandable that this has had a big effect on you.

A lot of people dropped me as a friend due to his death, because I became so depressed and was crying so often.
A lot of people don't know what to do when a friend is struggling. Others aren't prepared to have anything other than fair weather friendships. I wish they had been more supportive.

Sending hugs
