Venting My professor has been grooming me

#1
Bad timing for a post like this, it's totally midnight on christmas, we all love christmas. Regardless, some things are weighing on me. Ive been feeling the depths of suicidal despair lately. I can't tell if the title's situation has been serving more to distract me from suicidal thoughts, or to exacerbate them. It's been doing both, I think. On one hand, his attention is intoxicating and seems an escape from my suicidal feelings. On the other hand, I think this all makes me feel way more vulnerable and unstable than I would otherwise. Both my "feelings" for, and my intimidation towards him are just as extreme and intense as my hope to die. He's kind of a terrible creep but he seems like something that I have to live for. It's wild to me that he behaves in the way that he does and probably just goes about the rest of his days not thinking about how deeply it affects me. Maybe he underestimates just *how* vulnerable and immature I am compared to him. I value my own life and self little enough for me not to feel compelled to cut ties, but to anticipate seeing him in the future just to understand how far he's really willing to take things. He always surprises me with how brazen he is... so much so that my surprise brings me back to earth from suicidal spiraling. A rock, a hard place.

Sorry, I am just stumbling across this. I’m guessing that if he’s your professor, you are in college. This would indicate that you are an adult. An intimate relationship between you and your professor is not appropriate. He has power over you in that he can coerce you to comply with his demands under the threat of your grades suffering, or just by the fact that you are there to learn what he is there to teach. A romance between two people of which one has power over the other is never appropriate. It would not be problematic, IMHO, for you to get involved with a professor, but it definitely is when he is your professor.

Since you are an adult, however, you have power of your own to say what you are going to allow or not. In other words you are fully allowed to set your own boundaries and/or to go to the college admin department and ask for help handling the situation.

There is almost certainly a counseling avenue of some sort that can help with precisely this issue, as it happens often enough that the university needs to have a process to handle it when it does.

I want to be clear that I am not offering advice, except to suggest that you get advice from someone at the college who is qualified to help you with this problem. HTH
