My aunt (Tia) died just recently and it is so hard. I don't know how to process it. I am trying to support my cousin at the same time so I feel like I can't really grieve. I am starting to feel numb to everything. I put on a happy face and no one knows that I am having such a hard time. The end of the semester is coming up and finals are starting soon and projects are due but I have no will to do them. I just don't care anymore. Well I do and I don't. there is just so much going on that finals are at to bottom of the list of things I care about and want to do. I am wondering if I should inform my professors but at the same time I don't know what to say. "hey want to let you know my aunt died so if I am not responsive in class or don't do well on homework that's why"? it just seems like a copout and sounds so flippant.

sorry that this isn't quite coherent

I'm sorry that you lost your aunt Tia. You're welcome to say more about her and what happened if you'd like to. It's also ok not to.

I think what you posted was perfectly fine. Please don't worry.

I am wondering if I should inform my professors but at the same time I don't know what to say. "hey want to let you know my aunt died so if I am not responsive in class or don't do well on homework that's why"?
If your school has a counseling service, you could try talking to them. You could also tell an academic advisor that you'd like information on academic policy in the event of personal or medical emergencies.

If you could do that via email, it might be easier. I don't think you'd have to talk to your professors directly in any case.

I am trying to support my cousin at the same time so I feel like I can't really grieve
It's good that you're trying to support your cousin, but it's bad if that means it's preventing you from grieving. It sounds like it would be better if a third party could support both of you. Do you think family therapy might be a possibility for you and your cousin?

I hope something can help.
