when you are distressed can you try this: put your left hand on the top of your right shoulder and your right hand under your left armpit and just stay like that and see how you feel.

Welcome to the forum. Hope you feel that you can settle a bit here, everyone is really friendly and so much each and everyone has gone through.
I have found in the very short time being here different ways to try, yes some worked some haven't.
When you feel able try open a little and see what you can get from people. X

it’s hard & scary to say ALL the things I wanna say out loud. As a single parent to my 7y/o daughter I fear that the wrong someone will hear me and get Child protective services involved because of what I’m thinking/feeling, you know. And one look at my mental health history would not bode well for me.

Some days she is the only reason I make it through. If she ever was taken from me….. it would be soul crushing.

Absolutely, I admit to fitting the beginning of the movie The Wizard of Oz being for the young at heart. It is great to never lose that sense of wonder at the world. For myself it is especially true of nature and wildlife and plant life.

And as far as hugs, they are great in that they may be a bright spot in someone's day.
