Is the pic of the volcano in Gran Canaria? I was there many years ago and remember looking down into this huge crater. Not sure if it was extinct.
Yeah, the huge crater is Badama crater, Gran Canaria. That one is extinct, but there's also photos here of "fire mountains" Lanzarote. Although it's kind of classified as being currently inactive, it's still being monitored. At depths of only 4 inches temperatures can reach 140*c, two feet down around 460*c. There's a restaurant at the top of one of them where they cook their chicken, fish vegetables over a grill suspended over the dug up ground! Was allowed to view it close up, and the heat was incredible!

Yikes! Reminds me of the people who live on the slopes of Mt. Etna and who refuse to be resettled elsewhere, despite being offered government grants.

Also, isn't there a supervolcano in the Canaries somewhere, which will cause a massive tsunami to hit the shores of the UK when it blows?
