Pain

Last week I found out my first "real" boyfriend passed away. Then I found out it was by suicide. I thought I was doing better despite the excruciating service which I barely even made it through. I m just so maddened now over some asshole making YouTube videos about random people he finds and doesn't even personally know dying by suicide (ex obviously being one of them here). It's not even being done for the sake of mental health awareness but just click bait for monetization. It sickens me that someone would cause people more pain when they are already hurting.

Our society is simultaneously the most detached from each other and the most connected by social media. We are all neglected by our friends, and families who are too busy with work or social media and end up drawn to work and social media ourselves in order to attempt to get that validation that we so lack from everyone else. That horrible desperation to be noticed above all the others trying the same thing inevitably spawns the most click-baity and horrible videos like the ones you've mentioned.

Our society is sick. Not in the sickening sense, but in the ill sense. Just like how it breaks us mentally, it also breaks us socially. It gives voices to the loudest and most abhorrent deviants and anonymises the voice of the majority, driving us all to more deviant behaviour so as to not be forgotten.

The people who make these videos are in the minority, and you are absolutely right to be sickened by what they do for attention, but please treat them as what they are: desperate narcissists with nothing in their lives except for the screaming compulsion to be noticed. Not worth remembering.

A Google search of the person's name will bring up the obituary and thereby also bring up a listed video of the individual. Naturally, people knowing the deceased will be curious as to what the video is all about. The creator is just someone scoping out obituaries and then reading that the person has died. With each click or view they capitalize on it. I went back and saw that that particular video now has 1K views.

I'm sorry about what you've had to deal with, and hope you find some peace with this situation
Thank you @ I Love Tomorrow I'm just hoping for the same.

@Dante, I appreciate your response. I'm not one to subscribe to social media outlets as I abhor them for the very reasons you have stated.

However, I wouldn't say the motivation here is to be "noticed above all others out of desperation" nor would I equate it to "a need to not be forgotten" but rather to profit monetarily off of someone else's misfortune by utilizing the internet as a vector. Deviant and sick nonetheless. I'm no stranger to that reality of the word. Not to say that was your implication here. Thanks for hearing me vent and reading my post.

Mercy, I am sorry, that is horrible.

People do anything for money these days.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, and the fact that people do things like this for clout sickens me. If the friends or family of the deceased make a video as a tribute or something, that's one thing, but for a complete stranger to use it for clicks and views, that's just unacceptable.

Some people are just beyond despicable. I am so sorry you have gone through this.
