So it's perfectly LEGAL in the US to pay disabled people less than minimum wage "if it impacts their productivity". I'm sorry... WTFH?! I often hear gross things about the world, but it's been some time since I haven't heard one at that level. I am outraged.
it may be legal in the united states as federal law but i don't think many states do it. each state sets the minimum wage and exceptions for their state and in maine that wouldn't happen. the only exception is they can pay less if some other organization picks up the difference. when i was looking for a job they only paid me half salary for a year and va paid the rest. but i agree some states are disgusting in their minimum wage and if they do that it is horrible

I hate going to the bloody mailbox these days. It only brings bad news. More rate increases coming our way. BIG increases. All the utilities are requesting them. Not to mention property tax increases. Hell, my expenses are increasing too. Food, insurance, electricity, natural gas, car maintenance, medical care. But my income is NOT increasing. I am a retired senior citizen. One of those now USELESS creatures. How do they expect people like us to pay these bills? They are devastating. It just pushes us that much closer to choosing between homeless and death.
And all you listed on a fixed income and also having to qualify annually for free for the 2 neuro meds I take that would cost me 150,000 dollars a year combined but I have to go through a detailed Months Long process every single year. Where do they think a retired 69 year old (in two weeks) is going to get more income????? btw, you are NOT useless Barb. And neither am I. OR anyone else in our age stratosphere. Let's blow up our mailboxes, ok?

I didn't have a good education in school when I was younger. I went to school and had good to average grades but the teachers and the classes were bad.

The crazy thing is that I wanted to study more. I remember when I was 11 asking for my mother for math extra classes or a tutor or something and she just ignored me.

Many bored days when the classes I needed to have just didn't have teachers and I would pick some random schoolbook and read whatever for hours.

Maybe I shouldn't blame my parents and the state for all my mistakes, but what could I do?

my major complaint is the life cycle of humans. we are born helpless then we learn and grow , eventually we live a productive life. but then the inevitable happen, we get OLD . we lose our edge , it takes longer to do things, health gets worse etc. but that's only the beginning. we keep losing more and more function every year until we are eventually shitting in our pajamas and our mind is gone. i wish we were like animals, we would expire once we got old and sick and don't have to suffer like us humans

In my book, abled people who have the audacity to use a disabled parking spot even for a second are evil. (If I believed in evil)
And how often they all seem to have the exact same comment: I will only be five minutes...two hours later they are walking around with a dopey Baby Huey look on their face and their nose stuck in a phone.

The thing is, five minutes doesn't make it any better. Are they expecting disabled people to wait? They'll just have to park further, which might be very inconvenient or dangerous for them, or not be able to park at all and have to leave.

This has started to seriously anger me since I had to start using them. Depending on the parking situation, I may just have to go somewhere else or go home and try again later if those spots are taken.

Even still, I’ll use a regular spot if there are any open within reasonable walking distance, in case there’s someone who needs it more (to unload a wheelchair or something).

I’ve been in two public altercations/arguments (okay, shouting matches) since the stroke, both were over people using or blocking disabled parking spots.

Lol, I didn’t read this comment until after I posted, but yeah, that’s exactly right.

I've recently dived more into the rabbit hole of ableism and disability rights, and have noticed how much society doesn't care at all about them/you. No one really talks or knows about the shitshow it really is.

I am glad you argued with them. It must be difficult, but I hope it made them a little unhappy at least.

I have some stupid disciplinary thing at work. A lot of what they are telling me off about was misconstrued or dramatized, but I have to meet with whatever stupid employee assistance counselor. I had to call for the mandatory referral, and they asked me about my schedule so they could find a time that works for me. I told them I was working overnights the next few days so I'd prefer something later in the day... and they offered me 10 AM or 11 AM tomorrow. Why did they even bother to ask if they weren't actually going to try to accommodate my needs?

Applied for a job at a similar site to where I work right now that might be a better environment. Was looking forward to interviewing until I found out that they want to pay me less than $20/hr for a master's degree and three years of crisis experience.
I don't know if I'm even going to bother to interview. If it was a job that I knew would be significantly better for me maybe. But it's not, and my commute would be much worse, and I would have to stop seeing my current therapist that I really like, because he works for the same company. They said that daylight shift pays more there. At my current job my base pay is already a lot higher, plus I get a shift differential added on for evenings and overnights. No wonder they're having trouble filling this position. I know Pittsburgh is a low cost of living area, but this is ridiculous.
