Went to my orthopedic appointments today. I had requested to see a specific provider when the doctor referred me and explicitly stated I need trauma informed care. They said sure and sent a referral for the woman doctor I requested. I noticed that the referral never changed technically and still showed a male provider. I questioned the doctor who did the referral and he said that he sentin the referral for the woman and it showed on his side. So I said okay then. I called their office and I specifically and clearly told me I was calling for that female provider. They said okay and scheduled me, to my knowledge it was under the female providers name as they did not tell me differently.

I got to my appointment this morning and told them I was there to see the female provider. The receptionist made a face and hold on a second. She goes off to the back comes back and says she no longer works there and that I would be seeing a male doctor. I told her that I had specifically requested a female provider and needed trauma informed care due to my past history. The woman excused herself again and came back saying that I was scheduled for the male doctor and they did not have any female providers. I asked "can I at least have a female nurse with me in the room for my comfort ". She again excused herself and came back saying "the doctor doesn't require a chaperone, so I cannot guarantee that one will be provided, what would you like to do?". I was upset but said I just needed to take care of my back because I cant get around like I need to. She asked me if I was sure I wanted to do that even if a nurse couldn't be with me and I said yes.

Technically, even if a male doctor isn't required to have a chaperone, if a patient says they need trauma informed care, they are allowed to have a chaperone in the room and are never to be denied.

I was fortunate enough that a woman did join and she made me feel safe and comfortable. The doctor however had an odd feeling to him, because I felt like he was annoyed by me. Granted as my first visit i didn't know what he would be like.

I had x-rays done which didn't show much as I was referred to check my herniation. The doctor was great at explaining my x-rays, all of which i already knew ad explained to him,, which was why i was there, but other things not so much. He told me basically the only thing that they do is perscribe an NSAID for what I have and that's it. He did ask if I was interested in an injection, I said yes. So all he said was "I dont do injections, so ill send in a perscription for it". Didnt tell me anything else and that was it. I was told to leave after my appointment and told I didn't need to go back to the desk just exit. So no follow up, no explanation of how to do my nsaid no explanation for my shot.

I checked portal later and find I was referred to a pain clinic but I have to call the ortho place to apparently schedule first.

I think deepdown I feel furious because I feel like I found my voice and am learning to speak up for myself, but it seems that the doctors are not even trying to listen to me at all now. It's like they could care less about someone who has endured trauma in the past and they just expect you to get over it and comply with the doctors for their convenience.

Honestly I think I am just too numb at the moment to feel my anger for how my appointment was handled and how I felt as if my trauma is a joke to people. It's like my comfort isn't a priority.

I always had a strong urge to work in the medical field in some way, part of why decided to do medical office administration for school now, but suddenly I dont want anything to do with it period. I had a lot of respect for doctors, nurses, surgeons ect over the years, but honestly I am finding it extremely difficult to respect them now.

I dont even feel like working on my classes today. I was want to go to sleep and rest.

I saw that a lot. I've even seen patients being made fun of behind their back. Doctors make me sick too. I had to take my diploma off my wall. The medical profession loves their psychopaths.

I had a mental breakdown this afternoon. I was sobbing uncontrollably and cutting myself.<mod edit method>
When I waited for my deliveroo order (divided into two bags + an additional tiny one reserved separate for a vape) some weird creepy guy commented on "so many bags to carry" and when I walked away with my shopping he said "oh WOWWWW, freako!"

as someone with anorexia, that just hurt.

i wish i had the confidence/motivation to hoard loads and loads of caffeine and nicotine products in advance so i don't have to go downstairs to pick up the takeout so frequently
He can mind his own fucking business.

I have heard stories of patients being made fun of too. I have even tried discussing coming off of meds I feel is making me physically worse but my primary told me no and that I shouldn't do away with any others saying wgat I was expierencing was just from me stopping hrt. It wasn't. What diploma did you take down? (Specific field? Only if you want to share, and you don't need to). I think for some of them (around me) they enjoy taking advantage of my situation.

So I finally checked on the nsaid the ortho sent in for me. Come to find out, I am allergic and can't take it. Doctor's want people to do all of their physicals and check ups, take better care of ourselves, but wgen the doctors can't even show they care it majes it really difficult for some of us to try and care about ourselves.

I've read through the earlier posts about job interviews problems. I guess I fall into the same category, seems like a lot of people are struggling in finding a decent job. More often than not, longer unemployment times have been a factor towards a mental health decline, at least in my case. I mean after all the resumes sent to the various employers, I've got two answers that were a scams, one quite bad phone talk with a hr lady, and that's all that comes to mind recently. It's all kinda sad really.

I can add, that I worked for a few weeks as a long haul trucker (correct me if I'm wrong on this expression, I just meant that I've had to drive long distances across the various countries). While I somewhat enjoyed the experience, I couldn't simply stay at the company. You may ask why, and I'm eager to answer. My paycheck was about twice (or more) lower than salary promised on the advert. So that's that.

Anyway I would like to ask, how are you coping with that kind of situation in your life? Is it something that you think you can overcome? Or maybe you are struggling and have little hope left that things get better?

I recommend starting your own thread in the forum work and Financial Problems but I'll answer it a little here.

I just kept working at it. I was down deep and discouraged for years when I was in ill-fitted jobs. The problem was that while I was in low paying jobs it was expected that I was earning a substantial amount - I wasn't - and that I wouldn't expect less. This forum allowed me to vent my frustration and kept me sane. I was lucky my house was paid off and I had health insurance otherwise I might have ceased to exist. It took three years to get my final job.

I’ve known some doctors and nurses in my personal life and can confirm that.
Same here. It happened to me in person, when there was a female nurse in attendance and she and the male doctor laughed at my concerns.

@Neko~boy I'm glad you stood up for yourself with the receptionist and the visit, in general. What sort of reception is that, and where is patient care on their job description, the bottom of the last page? rhetorical question (heavy on the sarcasm).
I hope you are okay.

We’ve got a pedophilic child trafficking narcissist leading our country, wars and unrest all over the world, another powerful nation moving forward on developing nuclear arms, which we already have enough of to destroy the entire world several times over, everyday goods are getting so expensive that even people in the richest countries are hurting and have to go without, and all of this is practically a moot point in the long run because we’re literally burning the planet to death to the point where it will be entirely uninhabitable soon enough.
