Thank you for inviting me @may71 Your idea would help ease the challenges of tagging people at every new cafe. I often struggle to try to include everyone I can, regulars and newbies alike, and feel bad when I miss someone. But I also like the cafe being new and fresh each day and I can easily find the day's theme in the first post. Honestly, I like Jim's Cafe the way it is. There's a sort of comfort in knowing what to expect from this thread, and I wouldn't want to change that.
The chat idea sounds like a good way to try your Eternal idea without changing Jim's Cafe.

I don't know what today's cafe theme itself should be, so I guess it's make-your-own-theme. It's also the Happy Birthday Cafe for @RedTerminator13 ! 
I'd like to float the idea of a potentially eternal cafe thread. That is, rather than having a new thread for each new theme and each new day, maybe we could have one thread, with each theme lasting at least one day and until someone changes it.
That way, we wouldn't have to go on a massive tagging frenzy for each cafe. Anyone who has ever responded to a cafe thread would automatically have the thread bumped to the top of their watched threads list, and they could always unwatch the thread if they wanted to. There would always be a Jim's Cafe thread with a theme active, and the theme would remain active until someone changed it. It could also be a general chat thread regardless of the theme.
As always, everyone is welcome to Jim's Cafe whether you have been tagged or not, and new members are especially welcome to introduce themselves and say hello!

I think the default setting is that whenever you post on a thread, you automatically "watch" that content (this can be changed in user preferences though).
"Watching" means that if you go to "forums--->watched", and new posts have been made on the thread, the thread title will go to the top of your "watched" thread list.
If you're accessing SF via a phone though, I think you get an "alert" instead.
You can also "watch" a thread without posting though. If you go to the first post on a thread, on the top right-hand side, there's a "watch" button you can click on. You can't see the "watch" button if you use the SF phone app though.
