Its spring and I am craving salads!

What type of ingredients do you use in your salads?
What type of dressings?
What is your go to salad?
I wish I liked salads more too lol, but ya when making them at home then I usually put lettuce, carrots and sometimes almonds too. I like for them to have tomatoes but depends on if we have them or not. For dressings it’s usually caesar, coleslaw or this greek one we like.

My fave salad is caesar or greek. Macaroni is great too but definitely not a very healthy one lol :p

my go to salad is best in the spring, summer n fall. i marinade chicken or steak for 24 hours in a fruit vinaigrette dressing like raspberry or apple, then grill it, slice it up n stick it over a bed of mixed lettuce, adding whatever salad toppers we have on hand and usually with sliced avocado and/or cucumbers. If i don't do that, i get the chopped salad kits that don't have onion in it, and often add grilled or canned chicken.

What type of ingredients do you use in your salads?

For quick salads it is mainly just lettuce.

What type of dressings?

Either 1000 Island or Italian.

What is your go to salad?

Wilted lettuce salad is my favorite by far, but it is a mess to make and definitely not really healthy as such.

I tend to keep a lot of pret a manger food around -- apples, oranges, nuts, seeds. So I'll make a salad with some greens and maybe a fruit and a nut and som cheese crumbles, like apple slices, walnuts, and bleu cheese. I also like to have cucumbers, celery, red onion on hand and will use those.

What type of ingredients do you use in your salads? • organic greens & other vegetables, mostly

What type of dressings? • homemade honey-mustard, and creamy garlic-herb, and a simple one with just evoo, balsamic vinegar, salt, & pepper

What is your go to salad? • a little bit of lettuce, some cabbage, rocket, raddichio if I have it, radishes, beets, figs & black olives. Also, often just chop fresh cabbage and put a simple vinegar and honey ddressing on it.

I have been trying to eat more cooked vegetaables after reading what @may71 said about having warm foods, but I love salads.

Heh. My idea of a salad involves pasta and Hellemans Mayonnaise, just enough minced onion to even out the flavor, and tiny amounts of carrot slivers. It’s supposed to have tuna, but I don’t taste it.

This is a classic Hawaiian side dish called Mac salad. I go to every Hawaiian BBQ restaurant I come within range of to try their mac salad, and I have yet to encounter a similar flavor to what I discovered on the islands.

I think I need to experiment with some recipes on my own, but that would mean cooking, which also means dishes and cleaning up the prep area. Yuck. The cooking ai can handle, but the thought of cleaning up my own mess is enough to make me say, well I would rather drive somewhere and pay someone else to cook for me and then clean up their kitchen professionally.

I hope you weren’t just thinking of leafy green salads. Only way I eat those is with a pile of croutons on top, and then drench the crunchy bits in ranch dressing. Only Ranch. If I feel fancy, maybe some cheese ir fried jalapeños, too. :D

Sounds very French-ish. I learned through my culinary journey that the French generally eat fresh fruits and vegetables, a little cheese, and a fresh baguette. It makes for easy picnics. The crazy meats and sauces that take 7 hours to make, and 4 years of training to do properly, are just for expensive restaurants.

I wish I liked salads. I would be healthier if I ate them. Would be interested in dressing suggestions. Maybe if I found a dressing I liked.....
I think dressings are a regional preference. When I moved to Arizona I would ask for Ranch dressing, and the server usually made a remark about the damn Coloradans putting ranch on goddam everything. It’s true- lettuce is pretty much an excuse to shovel in Ranch with a spoon, and it also goes on buffalo wings, French fries, pizza, and any other permutation of starch and/or meat!

The ranch phenomenon goes through most of the midwest, including Colorado. Don’t get me started on the whole debate over whether CO is in the midwest, because look at a map, or if it’s in the west because we have cowboys.

I tend to eat salads in the summer months. I eat mason jar salads, where you get a jar and layer the salad ingredients. I start with toms, cucumber, celery, and so on. I just use olive oil for the dressing on top. I take these to work, it's great as you can make up 3 mason jar salads and put them in the fridge.

Colorado is a funny mixture of cultures. Here is a "this reminds me of" story: when on a very long drive of 1100 miles I stopped in a very, very, small town in MT because the truck needed fuel and we were really hungry. There was 1 place serviing food and it was open, so we went in. While I was ordering for me and my kiddo, about a dozen large trucks pulled up, and a bunch of cowboys and cowgirls (lol that sounds very strange because they were most certainly all grown-ups) came in fresh off some round up or whatever it's called. They were all wearing chaps and boots etcl, and it got quiet because I think the rest of us were sort of over-awed. Anyway so one of them ordered what I'd ordered: a turkey sandwich. My kiddo wanted the daily special which was a small locally grown steak; he was already becoming a Montanan. Apparently they were overheard ordering the turkey sandwich because after a deep silent pause a booming voice from the other booth said, You can't order that, nobody eats bird here.
At that point of course I hoped nobody saw the waiter placing the turkey sandwich in front of me, just the steak arriving for my son. Their conversation went along along the lines of, "since we've been chasing beeves around since dawn I can order anything I damn well please."

It was a really good turkey sandwich, but my son's steak was truly superb. He shared a bite with me.

So that was nothing at all about salad. Just a story from a few years ago. :)

Nothing served raw or cold for me. I like cooked salads though :)

I eat a lot of cooked mixed vegetables, like corn, peas, carrots, and green beans, which I guess is kind of like a salad technically.

I like bean salads, but since they're usually served cold, I heat them up.
