Saying Goodbye

#1
No I'm not posting a goodbye because I'm going to end my life.

I'm just going to be off the site. Either temporary or permanent. I don't know.

A random new user started "following" me on here this week. I never even noticed this was a thing. I've had private chats with users who I've made friends with over the years and all that is fine. But, obviously, this is not "social networking" for me. I don't have an online presence at all.

It's creepy and feels like I'm being stalked especially since I have no idea who this person is and have never had any communication with them. My life and trauma isn't an open book for random online entertainment. I'm also in a very sensitive situation that some of you know about. I think this is a stupid feature for a suicide forum to be honest. The person even has a private profile so I know nothing except their username🤦🏽‍♀️.

I've made everything on my profile as private as possible and asked for help from admin to remove followers. In the meantime I'm going to focus on my real life safety and stop posting here. Really sucks because I absolutely adore so many wonderful members on here.

I hope things get better for the members I've connected with on here aswell. I'm not the only one struggling and I honestly enjoyed giving back advice and empathy. Maybe I can return at some point with good news 👋🏼.

I hope this is not the last time but if it is , I think you're somehow incredibly kind despite all the shit you've been through and are going through. That fascinates me. I wish you well sincerely.

For what it's worth, clicking on your avatar brings up a popup that includes a "follow" button. I'm not clicking it now, reading how you're feeling, but I suspect if I were to, I would be then "following" you.

Meaning, it likely doesn't require any special hacks or permissions to follow someone, even someone who has set their profile to private.

As for reason why, it could be someone finds your output helpful and wants to see more of what you have to say.

If you still feel unsafe, though, then I understand, and I'm wishing you the hiatus does you good. We'll miss you. We hope to see you again.

The person who is following probably does just find your content helpful , but you make a valid point and I think anyone who feels unsafe should be able to turn off the follow button.
