Why do people wear scented products? I get that people want to smell nice and stuff, but for those of us who are sensitive to it, they can be a nightmare.

Today, I moved to a different floor at the library because I started sneezing. As soon as a girl sat down at the computer next to me, I could smell some sort of scent and felt my nose twitch.

I like places that say scent-free zone but unfortunately the library is not one of them.

I can smell scented hand cream that people put on in a public place.

I just don't get why people love scented things so much. I hate them.

Personally I love scented products but never realised until now how annoying it could be to others so thanks for pointing that out, I might not wear my victoria beckham or britney perfume the next time I go out :)

I struggle with perfume too - gives me a headache and makes me feel sick. I do okay with light "natural" scents though. I wear vanilla and/or raspberry body spray when I remember. I do like to smell nice - but I try to avoid things that are chemically or actual perfume because I am sure if it makes me feel unwell it probably has that effect on others too.

I so agree. Sometimes I want to ask people if they spilled the entire bottle on themselves. Its beyond annoying to those of us with allergies.

It doesn't bother me too much unless they put too much on. Then it can become overpowering. But as someone who has allergies, I can understand why that would be annoying to you.

Some people are self conscious about their body odor and don't realize how allergic other people might be. Feel free to let the library administration or whoever is in charge know about this, many people are sensitive to scented products. One of my local libraries has signs up about being a scent free environment.

People who are not allergic cannot begin to imagine scent as a problem. As one poster mentioned, it may help with body odor. Also, scents have a different level of acceptance in different cultures. I am allergic to a mold at work, and no one else can even smell it! Grrrrrrr.

I love scented products, although I don't overdo it. I'd say that most of us who happen to wear lotion or use hand sanitizer, don't do it deliberately to irritate people; we do it just to smell good. Yeah, there are people who overdo it, and that's annoying. There's no need to bathe in it. But for me, wearing a scent that smells like strawberry or mango, for some reason, gives me a little more self-confidence.
