1st mask is a huge ptsd trigger.

The medical supply doesnt seem to care much as when I called they gave me an appointment in 3 weeks.

I wake up gasping and no matter how many hours I sleep I am exhausted all day.

Suicidal at this point.

Any advice?

I use a nasal pillows mask - wonder if that would help you?

Other options to investigate may include e-pap (device that goes in your nostrils and doesn't rely on an air supply. Basically it creates a small amount of pressure when you exhale which stops the airway obstruction.

There are also special devices to encourage you to sleep on your side, since usually the apnea is worse when someone lies on their back.

Certain dental devices may pull the lower jaw forward and prevent the airway obstruction.

I have a nasal pillow also. I got a full face mask once because my mouth opens during the night and that causes the air pressure to increase towards max and blows through my mouth and I wake up gasping. But the full face mask really stifles me so I went back to the nasal pillow. Somehow I manage to keep my mouth closed enough to get a decent night's sleep. But cripes my mouth gets dry at night!

Hi @Angie
Sounds quite frustrating. I have read that some people have residual tiredness that takes time to resolve.
If you wake up gasping, the PTSD will prevent good rest.
Some machines have pressures within it that can be adjusted to reduce/prevent the gasping. A lot of the new machine are self regulating, so no adjustability. I have seen a lot of different mask types.

Several family members use this with great success. There are tons of different masks. This is very soft, lightweight. You can wear glasses if you have that. The pricing is American.

Regardless, it isn't what works for other people, its what works for you.
I hope you can find a way to tolerate it and start feeling rested. Let me know how it goes.

I am sorry you’re struggling. YOU are amazing, important & …sleep deprived. The unrelenting fatigue is not helpful to our dark thoughts. Keep trying. Your presence here makes SF a better place.
Do you want to talk about your thoughts & feelings? SomeTimes a vent or emotional dump can relieve some pressure. I am not around as much as before, but you can pm anytime. I hope you keep trying to live.

I wake up gasping
Could be that an adjustment to the pressure settings of your CPAP may be required or even during sleep your mouth may have inadvertently opened temporarily causing a redirection of airflow leading to the sensation of being uable to catch your breath. Also there may be instances of you experiencing nasal congestion during use? This itself can naturally lead to that gasping for air sensation but can be alleviated with nasal sprays. Often people can experience issues from the off with these devices, but hopefully the medic team will be able to troublseshoot your problems successfully for you.

I am waiting for my CPAP. There are different masks for it, could you ask to change masks? Weight loss will be helpful in the long run.

I want to die.

The days and nights run together.

The fatigue is overwhelming.
I am so sorry You feel so bad. You deserve rest & peace. I wish there was an easy fix.

How long have you struggled to rest? What type of things have you tried to promote rest? Did anything ever help? What things didn’t help at all? You don’t have to answer my questions if you don’t want to.

Lack of rest make our soul uneasy. Try to avoid the lies your brain tells you. They are wrong. You deserve peace.
we are here for you.
