Good Morning or afternoon. Hapoy Thursday SF friends.

I hope that everyone is on their way to recovering from the crazy holidays.

I thought a question might be..

Do you remember a teacher that had an influence over you and why or a kooky teacher from your childhood or even a professor that you really liked? I can remember quite a few. Ha

Theme for today, I will get back to you if no one does and tagging some folks as well.

I do remember my English teacher who immigrated to Russia from the US a long time ago. He told me I should be a writer and encouraged me to pursue a career in that field, which I didn't, but I still consider writing something in English one day. He was too cool for my school and was really understanding of us and wasn't as formal as other teachers. It was really refreshing to see a person born in the 50s to be so open-minded and liberal.

I go to uni now and my favourite professor now is my philosophy professor. He just loves what he does and he encourages us to read the material beyond the lectures, which I started doing. I really hope this is not my last course with him, I already signed up for another course that he teaches and really hope to be more active during classes. He seems like a very cool guy and I also hope to hang out at their department (I think it's called the department of philosophy and history of biology?) more often... I already do, frequenting their library, though I am still kind of shy and uncomfortable. Who knows, maybe my diploma paper will be written there?

Would anyone like to sit with me in the cafeteria? Sorry I got the date wrong, realized it's the 3rd not the 4th.
Okay.

Okay.
He must see something in you @Onion_soup. I don't think there's anything wrong with being shy, you are able to observe and get material for your writing, maybe. I enjoyed hearing about your professor and your studies.

Hey everyone and thanks for the tag @Lane Happy Thursday :)

I had plenty of good teachers when I was growing up. One of my favourites was Mr Bell when I was about 8-9. We all called him Mr Ding Dong. I called him that so much that even my parents started to as well. When I was even younger in primary school, if you had a wobbly tooth Mrs K would tie a piece of cotton round it and then pull. I seem to remember that sometimes she'd tie the cotton to the door handle and slam the door closed!!

i just heard that there’s an interesting theme here today!!!
hey this is certainly a thought provoking theme lane. makes me think of a few teachers/professors!
but first, No, not over the holiday blues and worse. been feeling horrible so hopefully being here will make me feel better.
• my 6th grade teacher had his students playing chess and playing the recorder because - as it was explained to me, the kids in his class were - low achievers and could not handle the normal academic stuff but still needed something. so the slowest kids in the school got to take it easy with those diversions.
• i had a social studies teacher in junior high act funny like a bit of a comedian in class, i remember him well for it though i remember none of his funnies
• then there was the english teacher who gave me a 35% out of a possible 100 on my report card. really, isn’t that a bit of over kill. wouldn’t it be a much better thing to try and see what the problem was? i often cite this in pondering my life long dilemma of feeling hopeless and worthless and without the basic skills i needed to be successful in life.
• in art college i had a painting/drawing teacher who was often unable to use human words to express feelings. so when trying to teach us how to paing an draw, he woudl sometimes shake and almost dance in staccato in order to get his point across. this somehow to me was way better than the words others might have used.
• there was a teacher who taught my son as a second grader. she used obscene highly inappropriate language at her class that was too difficult to bring up to her superiors in a timely enough manner but fortunately she got sent away anyway. i would tell but being inappropriate, i still don’t want to repeat it, not because i can’t say it, but because there may be some who don’t want to or shouldnn’t hear it.
• i feel like i’m forgetting someone so maybe i’ll post again later if i remember.

thanks for this cafe lane!

Well I used to be an edgy and dramatic teen at school, my essays and other written assignments reeked of that for sure. :D
But in an seriousness, I hope to visit my school one day and maybe reconnect with that teacher, he was cool. I had a very dramatic change from how I acted back then and now.

As for the professor, well he noticed my interest already and even said once that he was glad I was reading a book from his recommendations, and well I do frequent their library. I also think he understands I am very shy and maybe willing to say more than I say. Honestly, his lectures were the ones I was waiting for the most every week. :D

Lol. Omg. That would be totally illegal now but it worked.

We had a gym teacher called Mr. Zip. Fitting.

That's really awesome. I used to feel shy as a kid, but not as much now that I'm older. I always liked those classes where the teachers were expressive. But, it makes me think of Carol Burnett..who was extremely shy and look how talented she is.
