Thank you admins(s?) for working to keep SF alive. I love the new name!
In response to the announcement post: Yes, forums do appear to have been replaced by social media. But they don't scratch the same itch, and I do hope people start to realize that. Social media is now increasingly being regulated to demand you ID yourself to access them in some way, here in Europe, so maybe social media will be replaced by something else? I'm hoping for a forum renaissance.
I've checked out forum replacements like reddit and discord, but they just feel so chaotic and impersonal. Discord chats aren't sorted by threads, so your message will disappear and be forgotten very quickly. Discords will also randomly die when everyone migrates to new ones. And whoever replies to your reddit post, if anyone does, will never talk to you again. Subreddits are overmoderated, mods will randomly delete your posts and never explain why. Let's not even get into twitter.
They just can't compare to what you get from a consistent forum + chat room community. I can't be the only one who sees that, so I think forums will still have a future if people decide we're going to make it a thing again.
I'm glad something's being done because it's been so sad to see how the chat room is empty all day. This change should improve things!
