Welcome everyone!

This is probably going to be a big thread, I wasn’t sure if I should add other media to it at the moment such as tv shows, music, books etc. We’ll see :D There’s many music & book threads I think and a videogaming one too already, so...

Music specifically kept me going throughout the years for sure ever since 2007 and beyond.

Movies make my heart beat significantly faster at times. I remember watching Dune [part one] (2021)- by my favorite director Denis Villeneuve - and whether or not the movie was all that I had anticipated beforehand, I just was in the moment - it’s like my anxiety had inverted - reversed itself and was witnessing it all happen in real time, frame by frame if you will. I just couldn't predict what I was going to see and hear next. Amazing experience for that reason alone. The sound design & soundtrack are the definitive highlights of it all too.

Feel free to add anything that’s on your mind and/or are looking forward to with regards to entertainment! - Tag some folk too if you’d like. Do you know any big movie lovers?

@JDot @arbitrarybarry

Before we get started with upcoming media entertainment in 2024…

Movies from 2023 you may have missed!

This is my list of movies I’ve specifically seen in the cinemas in 2023:

So Google told me these were some of the major upcoming movie releases that are planned for 2024:

Doing some extra research now online, some movie genres aren't super well represented just yet in my lists. Will add those too!

I really like the A24 movie company ones and arthouse movies in general too.

To define [arthouse] "An art film, art cinema, or arthouse film, is typically an independent film, aimed at a niche market rather than a mass market audience."

Dune Part 2 is the movie I'm mostly waiting for. I'm also looking forward to the Bob Marley movie coming out. I'm a little worried about Gladiator 2. I can't imagine a sequel to that. But the cast looks good. I love Pedro Pascal, Paul Mescal, and Denzel Washington. And my instinct tells me Bad Boys 4 isn't a real movie. At least if it is, I don't see Will Smith being in it. In fact I don't see him working in Hollywood again to be honest.

I confess that I rarely go to the theater to see films anymore because of nitwits using their phones, texting, surfing, etc. Etiquette has simply gone out the window. I occasionally catch second run or special screenings at an historic restored 1920s movie palace downtown (which is frequented by nerdy cinephiles like myself), but I have given up on the major commercial movie theater chains.

It's sad, because as many of you know, I'm a huge film buff. I am hoping to splurge on a huge home theater TV at some point (I already have the sound system, but I still watch on a relatively small screen, 34").

I may take a chance and go see Eggers' Nosferatu, though... ⚰️ 🦇

And hoping Napoleon comes the Byrd!

This movie has been on my mind... I'll need a slightly stronger stomach to watch and experience it - I could wait and watch it at home, but I think I can muster the strength to watch it in cinemas:
It's actually exposure therapy for me, if I were to watch it for the right reasons. *halo I'll explain: https://www.suicideforum.com/community/threads/ocd-exposure-therapy-cbt-and-experiences.176744/

The Zone of Interest (2024, The Netherlands release)

[The commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife Hedwig, strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp.]

Yeah, this experience is going to be something else... This is an A24 - Jonathan Glazer movie - I've only seen "Under the Skin" (2013) by this director. I felt that one *yes4 , but didn't understand some of the themes explored there.

Yay! I am hoping Nosferatu will be awesome. I assume you are hoping the same thing. :)

I am very excited about this movie yes! I've loved everything Eggers has done (the Witch in particular.... absolutely chilling), and Nosferatu is one of my favorite films of all time. I thought Herzog's remake was pretty good, and curious to see where Eggers goes with it!

I'm also interested to see this. The one thing I hear everybody say about it is that it's good but it's also a completely different movie than they expected it to be. So if I watch it, I'll be ready for anything.

I was browsing for more upcoming movies for next year and found some interesting ones.
I haven’t seen 28 Days Later just yet, but now I’m interested because I didn’t know that the movie was a combination of Alex Garland (director of: Ex Machina, Annihilation, …) as a writer and Danny Boyle as the director.

28 Months Later

The third film in the "28 Days Later" franchise.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10548174/

Not just that, but Alex Garland is also making his third A24 project.

Civil War

The film, set in near future America, is said to be a companion piece to “Men.”

With some more info on this here:

Super interested in these. :) I saw that @JDot watched "Ex Machina" recently too! It being one of my favourite movies, it got me browsing for more.

I'm looking forward to, in no particular order:

The Zone of Interest (director Jonathan Glazer)--I think this actually counts for a 2023 release here, at least it is playing at festivals and getting the limited release in the big cities, but I'll count it anyway. "The commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife Hedwig, strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp."

Mickey 17 (director Bong Joon-Ho)--I trust one of the greatest living directors implicitly. Which is good because... "Plot under wraps."

MaXXXine (director Ti West)--completing the X/Pearl trilogy. "Follows Maxine, who was the only survivor of the bloody incidents of X, as she continues her journey towards fame to be an actress in 1980s Los Angeles."

The Bikeriders (director Jeff Nichols)--also had some limited screenings in 2023, but proper release next year. "It follows the rise of a Midwestern motorcycle club through the lives of its members. "

Furiosa (director George Miller)--expanding the world and lore of the greatest Mad Max film. "The origin story of renegade warrior Furiosa before she teamed up with Mad Max in 'Fury Road'"

Nosferatu (director Robert Eggers)--I'm admittedly not sure this remake is necessary or the best use of the only Robert Eggers film we get for a couple of years, but I remain curious.

Untitled Jordan Peele film--plot doesn't matter, don't care, I'm there.

Franchise/sequel stuff that could be fun: new Spidey, Deadpool, Knives Out flicks.

May not even be coming out in 2024 but I'm waiting for it--Rebel Ridge (director Jeremy Saulnier)--"A high-velocity thriller that explores systemic American injustices through bone-breaking action sequences, suspense and dark humor."

I didn't know Ti West did X and Pearl. I guess I need to see them. I really liked that movie he did that takes place in the hotel. I forgot what it was called.

I never saw any of The Hunger Games films, (nor, I confess, have I read any of the books), but now there's an origin story that looks interesting. The beauty being I don't have to watch the other films first to understand this one. And Peter Dinklage is in it. I was never into Game of Thrones, but I've loved every feature film he's done.

This is one I may pay to watch, the book was excellent.

Awesome list @arbitrarybarry *popcorn

Apparently I've missed out on that "Knives Out" sequel: "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery'' - I guess a sequel to that is happening too. I don't have Netflix *dunno though - too expensive *rant

Waiting for the release of "Kaibutsu" (2023) - released in January 2024 here @ Netherlands... Known as "Monster"

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt23736044/

Same director as Broker (2022/3) and Shoplifters (2018), I should watch these - started with Broker a bit already, as it was on Prime Video and was on my list to watch this year.
