Oh btw all the Studio Ghibli movies are on HBO Max
Damn, I got HBO Max - in The Netherlands, but... it's just not on there *thumbsdown *blue I guess it's because of my region or something.

Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, Ponyo, Castle in the Sky etc. are just not on there. *hiding

Just watch website says most Ghibli movies are on Netflix (Netherlands), which I'm not willing to subscribe to. *facepalm

Which sites do you go on for your Anime info / news? Anime-planet is my usual source of info for what's on / upcoming / popular. For reviews animeuknews seem to fit best with what I like.

I usually start here with this useful site: https://anichart.net/Fall-2022 (or similar type of sites) or I'll check out the Anime subreddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/

From there, if I want to know more about the specific titles such as Spy x Family's - 2nd season (Fall 2022), I go to https://myanimelist.net/anime/50265/Spy_x_Family - the MyAnimeList site. There's discussions to be found there too. That can be found here: https://myanimelist.net/anime/50265/Spy_x_Family/forum

There's also Crunchyroll news: https://www.crunchyroll.com/news

*thumbsup I'll check out the sites you mentioned in a bit! *dance4

Ironically, I am in the US and have Netflix, but not HBO Max. Think I should cancel Disney+ and switch to HBO but I am on netflix for certain series.

Although I am considered a Japanophile (mostly cars, tbh), I'm only an anime dilettante - I loved Akira, NGE, Ghost in the Shell, Lain, and Cowboy Beebop. Fullmetal Alchemist was okay but over the top at times IMHO. Beside that, though, I am a Ghibli superfan. I used to have (back in VCR days) this rare boxed set of Miyazaki films. It had possibly my favorite of all anime - The Cat's Return (awkward title translation but probably the best you can do without an explanation). When the Ghibli licenses were in negotiation, first they were going to be on Netflix in USA too, but they got outbid (I'm guessing) by HBO so whatever. Friggin licensing... I mean I understand creators need to make money but ffs I have to subscribe to at least 3 streaming services to even be somewhat socially current. I give up.

I saw The Cat's Return for the first time last year. I loved it. I don't know a Ghibli movie I didn't like. There was a critic who once said "Disney has heart. Ghibli has soul." I always liked that quote.

Attack On Titan has been doing the same thing, and it's starting to make me really hate anime, because you have to be really full of yourself to think this is acceptable. Just take longer between parts and release it all at once, or at least wait until you can release an episode per week, ffs.

I get that, I agree *agreed - I think I see this all over media entertainment in general... Episode per week is fine I think too.
Attack on Titan had the problem of having to be in sync with the Manga? *popcorn The Manga ended now at least?

This however is so weird... "The Final Season" > "The Final Season part 2" > "Sequel to Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season Part 2. " You gotta be kidding... *facepalm

I was only semi-aware of The Big Lebowski one... *facepalm Apparently all of them are actual movie references in this OP. The anime is already amazing by the way.

I just finished the second season of Made in Abyss and I thought the first was fucked up, but damn.

Beautiful beautiful show though.
Agreed, it's so dark... *consoleLike with certain games and other media entertainment, I sometimes wonder if I "really need this" in my life right now. I'm still interested in Made in Abyss (have finished season 1), but.. I dunno. *hiding

Chainsaw Man - episode 2 later today! *popcornLet's see where it goes...

Yeah, that’s a pretty reasonable reaction to it.

I think the tone of the show is ultimately hopeful. It’s mostly about these kids moving forward from past trauma. I mean, their whole journey feels like a metaphor for it; there’s every possibility that new horrible things will happen along the way, and you don’t know what your life will be like at the end of it, but you can’t go back to before and it’s better to push forward than to stay where you are and stagnate.

But damn, the showmakers *really* want you to feel the characters’ trauma, and they do not shy away from depicting it. The first scene of season 2 was one of the most shocking and disturbing things I’ve ever seen in anime, and not because it was over the top or sensationalized at all. It was just a very blunt depiction of a horrifying thing that happens all too often in the real world.

This show is gonna elicit some serious emotions, and it’s a good idea to be in the right headspace before watching it.
