Breakup after two weeks of silence.

#1
My long-distance girlfriend of 3 years dumped me tonight after not communicating for two weeks straight. I think she only called today because I said I was buying plane tickets to come see her because I was worried she was hurt. I thought I was going to marry her.

Anyway, I'm trying desperately not to think about all this right now. I can already tell I won't sleep all night and have no idea how to distract myself. Don't really know what I'm looking for. I was already feeling very depressed and hopeless before this happened and then the last two weeks have been some of the worst of my life. I won't do anything rash, but I wish I could. I wish I didn't have family it would hurt.

I guess posting about this isn't helping me get it off my mind. I don't know what to do.

I've had this happen to me twice and it was pretty rough both times. I still think about them to this day, but it doesn't eat away at me like it used to. I guess all I can really say is that it gets better with time, as you slowly think about it less and less until it's all just a lingering memory.

I'm sorry this happened. Making an LDR work is usually tough.

Sometimes people in LDR's aren't really serious about eventually turning the relationship into a not-LDR, but if their partner is serious about it, that's something that prompts a break up. I don't know if that was the case with her, but maybe.

I really didn't want to believe that that was the case, but it really does seem that way now. We had talked about marriage, and she often brought up having kids. I see now that it was just idle talk. Amazing that someone can call you the "love of their life" so flippantly.

LDRs - I had two, and out of experience: It is better to end a story before one of the partners leaves. This would have saved me approx. 200 flights over the last 20 years. Never again. Then I prefer to be alone. How to get out? I made Ibogaine therapy, the only thing that helped me (I am resistant to any therapy after all these years - it's just bla bla). But Ibogaine is really tough, - but it changes you and your life in 24 hours. You will see.

It's hard to know what was actually going through her head, especially if she never explained.

Some people go through dramatic mood swings, and they may actually mean it when they say they love you in that moment, but that changes very quickly.

Others may feel threatened by a real relationship but may like the safety of an imaginary one.

It's rough no matter what the reasons are. Do you feel like it would help to know why she did this, and do you think she would being willing to tell you?
