Encouraging Quotes

"There is but one truly serious philosophical problem problem, and that is suicide. Judging whether life is or is not worth living amounts to answering the fundamental question of philosophy."
Albert Camus in 'The Myth of Sisyphus' (1942)

Hopefully this is accepted in good faith as a positive inducement to live. I've just read his earlier novel 'L'Étranger' but I've been aware of the writer/philosopher and this quote for some time.

So, the 'realisation' that life not only has no inherent meaning and purpose, compels the 'rebel' to discard the option of suicide - which will always be a very definite option, make no mistake - as reinforcing the absurdity of existence. Simply by choosing not to end it all, especially when it feels like there is no credible alternative but pain, misery and sheer pointlessness (akin to pushing a boulder up a hill, only to have the pointless task repeated, ad nauseum, for all eternity), is an act of heroic rebellion against the nothingness that remains without taking such a defiant stand. #rebelforlife

"I think we are well advised to keep on nodding terms with the people we used to be, whether we find them attractive company or not. Otherwise they turn up unannounced and surprise us, come hammering on the midn's door at 4 q.m. of a bad ngiht and demand to know who deserted them, who betrayed them, who is going to make amends."

– Joan Didion
