Thanks @nobodyknows71!

SF is the only social media network I belong to. I have enough trouble keeping up on here let alone another site like FB or others. If I was on FB also, I'd have no hours left in the day.

I remember many years back, most of my family was on FB and it caused sooo many problems! People would get offended if not enough people "liked" something they posted or people would start blocking each other etc... That's why I always stayed off. My defence was "Well, Im not on Facebook, but if I was I would have 'liked' it"!! It was all too much trouble. I've thought about starting a FB account but it would have to be under a fake name and no family could ever know. Isn't that sad? Anyway... good luck to those of you on it and find the positives.... because I'm sure there are many positives too!
I'm not completely sure there are many positives to FB. It's all completely fake. TBH I only joined to keep in contact with my kids whilst on hols a few years ago before what's app. I used to activate then delete my account every time I went away. Then people sent me 'friend' requests. It felt rude to not respond!! Wtf?? So a year later, after ignoring people for as long as I could, I'm looking at people's Christmas posts, like I care!!
I don't post often on FB, but if I do it's directed at my kids that I don't see that often. Trust me you're better off out of it!!

If Facebook helps you, use it. If it doesn't, avoid it. Very simple. I made a fake account once just to play the scrabble on there with a friend for a few weeks. Never made a real account for me because I don't want to post all my personal info to the public / government / FB site owners and don't want people i didn't talk to since high school (for a reason) to start acting chummy again.

It does kind of suck you in. Once youre on the inside it doesn't seem to want to let you go! Have you considered Skype instead of FB??

I hear you. That sucks. But maybe worth mentioning to FB people that Skype maybe better for you. If that's the way you want to go. Just a suggestion.

I closed my account back in October and it was the best decision ever. After being a member for several years I was starting to get annoyed..depressed an bored. Not missing it!!

After participating in "facebook" the network for friends, for a few years. It began to eat away at my soul. I've never been one for validation but in the FB community validation revolves around this superficial being. I'm not talking about just updates in word forms but it's pictures galore. Not the usual cordial pictures, but filtered pics with overly happy, seductive, or downright raunchy people in oddly happy situations 24/7. Realistic? No. And those stories? Geez I though I was reading a children's Disney G rated movie with an ever happy ending. Come on people, take off your masks, society and your own face/family masks to just be real. Flaws and all! No one is perfect and the sooner u realize this, the sooner you open yourself to sharing your true self to everyone. After all no one likes fakes, and
eventually makeup melts, fat comes back, and gravity happens. So don't hide from the real you, be a role model for your kids and the next generation because growing old gracefully is beautiful, running from it produces an old essential that eventually looks worse than it should have. Take my advice don't run from age, take it all gracefully. Be proud of who you are, flaws and all..your perfect the way you are.
On point!! That's why I deleted my FB account.

I with you. My main goal for FB is so I can keep up with what my family is up to. It's how I found out two relatives died. Go figure, back in the day it was called a telephone. No I have to search the social media to find out if people I CARE ABOUT are okay. So sad that most of these "friends" really could care less if we were here or not. PICK UP THE PHONE, GO VISIT these are a lost art.

I happen to love Facebook, though I do not post often in it. It allows me to see cousins, relatives, old friends that long since moved away, kids that friends have that would never have seen, etc. So far as the original post- - nope- I do not need to air dirty laundry to the world to set an example - I am not setting a better example to my children if I post about how awful day/ month year it was or complain and post pictures of the flat tire or broken furnace that caused headaches galore.

I will assume that most people understand the things I post are in fact the "good parts" and since all the rest of the media only wants to talk about how awful life is and how horrible the world, the politicians, and how terrible life in general is, I am very happy to look on and share happy times and occasions with friends. acquaintances from now and the past as a reminder there is still plenty of good in the world. The only posts I skip are in fact the people that choose to use Facebook to complain about how awful life is and discuss everything bad in the world. I already know about the bad and I choose to spend my free time looking for the positive not the negative.

I choose to be happy if others are successful and happy and look for how I can do that as well, or if what they are doing is something that might interest me or my family. I see nothing "showboating" about using a platform designed to share highlights for sharing highlights. It is what I want to share and to be honest, since most my "FB friends" I seldom if ever see in real life, I have no interest in the "bad" or "how awful " things are for them- to me THAT is the one upping that I abhor. People that want to see the bad stuff happening to others to make them feel better about their own lives or validate themselves is far more of an issue in my opinion than people that want to share the good. I am not sure I understand being jealous or mad about a picture of somebody else doing well, and I am not naive enough to believe that is their life 24/7- but I am glad they had a moment that made them happy, and if they wish to share that moment with me I am grateful. Just my opinion.

As I said in my previous post I left Facebook a few month ago for good. Like for many others its was a way to stay /keep in touch with Friends , and old work mates etc. but we found another way to keep in touch through Whatsapp or Skype. I have seen so many closing their accounts in the past few month. Yes, Facebook can be a blessing but it can also be a curse. To much fake stuff on there and bad news . It really pulls you down and that on the daily bases.
