Facebook - to quit or not

#1
Well I finally shut down my Facebook account (temporarily at least). I watched a documentary called The Social Dilemma and read a bunch of articles about how social media damages your mental health. I do like Facebook for some things, but overall for me it's destructive. I want to talk about deeper things. All the people who get likes are posting photos and shallow crap for the most part.

I haven't used any sort of social media in over twelve years (unless you count private special interest messageboard communities like this one, which I don't). Good for you for binning it..

People say, "but I use it to keep in touch with people"....Uh, yeah, there's this thing called a phone...or hell, use email, or (Bob forbid), why don't you (gasp) actually write a letter, or hell, send a postcard?! Remember those, people?

FB is garbage, and potentially dangerous re: data breaches, ID theft.

Oh yeah, and Zuckerberg is a tool/douche..

I like the discussions about news events in my city that are on FB and a page on recommendations that people post they someone to do such n such and you find the greatest plumbers, handymen, landscapers. but I like to hear what is going on in city Hall. No one posts pictures of their families or any other personal stuff anymore so I would drop it if I didn't want to know what's going on and why my taxes are going up...

I still have mine set up and check it at times. I have perhaps 20 or so friends on it, mainly family, neighbors and a number of folks I went through school together. I would say we are lucky in that none of us live on Facebook or post nonstop with messages and picturesunless something is going on. Only thing coming up soon for me is my 40th high school reunion. I was amused when I indicated I would show up and the admin for the page told me that it was incredible to her how many dozens of people were looking forward to seeing me again. I was more than a little unusual back in those days. LOL

I got myself banned in a comical way sometime back and wear my ban as a badge of honor.
