As I understand it, there is a newer generation of the drug, Nortriptyline (which has been around for awhile), but as was explained to me, it was designed to produce less adverse/or side-effects, than Amitriptyline. A good question for you Dr., and possible/or potential alternative, should you desire to simply change up your AD, yet stay from within the same drug class. Note: it may be less potent (though I don't know that for sure). Meaning, need more of it, to equal the other, which may be one reason they've got you on it, instead. For it's therapeutic benefit, or effectiveness. That said, perhaps the other would yield still some positive effects for you, versus or opposed to simply foregoing it altogether.
