Has Anyone Used EAP Programs in The Workplace?

#1
I likely will be starting a new job with a major retailer in the United States, and just heard about EAP (Employee Assistance Program). Has anyone dealt with or used this in the workplace in regard to mental health situations? I would be interested in being able to be absent or make my work schedule around group and therapy appointments, as well as not having negative consequences for calling in to work for having bad mental health days. Any info is appreciated, thanks

I have used the EAP before and to my knowledge it was merely company paid services.
I am not sure if EAP offers the documentation side of protected FMLA services.

What I do know is, when one is eligible for FMLA, your physician can fill out documentation provided by employer for intermittent FMLA. This means that 12 weeks total of sporadic mental health days, you are protected from being terminated based on absences during episodic periods.

Read your employer handbook of when one becomes eligible for this protective status and tread carefully with discussing your plans with colleagues or HR beforehand. Unkind employers can use the intent of your plan to discriminate against you and terminate you without cause ( although you will know why)

Wish you the best of luck!!
