I am happy to take those hugs @LumberJack.

Virtual or no, to me hugs from safe people are one of the good parts of life. I love hugs.

Sharing hugs back and more to anyone who wants them.

I'm feeling better, anxious thoughts aren't bothering me today, and my cracked rib hurt slightly less last ngiht so I was able to sleep.
I am glad your anxiety is lower but sorry your rib is still troubling you. Hopefully it is on the mend and from now on you will get some good sleep - which is what I am going to try to do now!

Oh dear. I thought it was a bruised rib. It’s cracked, though? I’m guessing you saw a medical provider; did they suggest anything to help with the pain? I’ve never cracked a rib but a bruise is painful enough. I’m really sad about that, and may you find some way to manage the pain!

Well no, @LumberJack I didn't go to the clinic or any medical provider. It hurts at the same level as when I did have a cracked rib that'd been confirmed by x-ray at hospital after a car wreck (that one was years ago). That rib was cracked and shoved into my thorax, collapsing half my lungs, until the surgeon released the pressure by inserting a one-way valve thingamajob... Is it bad how consistently I go off on tangents yes I suppose it is really bad. Pelple in real life get very irked with me.

I utterly do not mind! Of course, I am a frequent flyer in the tangent class, too. I don’t think I have read you mention an ADHD diagnosis, and we haven’t met in person. However, when I am having a delightful chat with a total stranger and neither of us is exhausted after 5 minutes, but we have covered so many topics that we are somewhere in the territory of discussing wiki articles about the stomach lining of cobras- I feel safe to share my diagnosis and 100% of the time so far they mentioned similar struggles with normies.

I am aware that the above paragraph is also a tangent. I think the run on sentence at the end is a nice touch; it feels like word garnish on top of word salad.

Oh but about people who say that you’re too much, it’s not you- it’s them! They are just running too pedestrian of an internal narrative in their heads to let go of the ground… and fly! You can and mediocre minds tend to treat brilliance as a threat rather than something to emulate. Cf “crab mentality”. :D

How’s that for tangents, lol? 😂
The ones I see are;
  1. Amateur diagnosis techniques
  2. Zoology reference
  3. Culinary metaphor
  4. Mythical treatment of conversational flexibility as an advantage, not a disorder (while jokingly claiming a cartoonish self supremacy over mere NTs)
  5. Self referential commentary
  6. Obscure psychology concept
I think my work is done here. :) *rofl

Regarding your cracked rib, would it be difficult to access urgent care or other options now? I know im fussing, and I would also like for you to have a clinician look at it. Not necessarily for the diagnosis, but rather about pain control and advice on the optimal adjustments to make that could hasten healing.

I’m not trying to persuade you one way or another. I implicitly trust you to know your own body. This would suggest that you would know right away if something serious was happening. It’s my way of expressing anxiety, more than anything else.

It's funny how you get used to rib things. I cracked a rib jumping into a seat well on a boat when I was younger. The rib hit the boat before my feet. It was agonising but I had access to very strong pain relief at the time. Tried running a, week later. Nope. It eventually healed. Didn't see a doctor. Years later I fell running and ribs smacked into pavement. That went on for so long and got so bad I did see a doctor who sent me for x ray but turned out the rib was not pressing on lungs. That took 3 months. Then had 2 more minor ones in last 18 months. An incident bashing myself with garden shears and another fall running, with various consequences. Glad I haven't had any actual breaks as can't imagine the pain. Though read about a runner who smashed a record with 2 broken ribs 😳

I really hope @Windhover is not carrying a serious one this time.

I’m hurting and I’m tired. Not tired as in sleep deprived but tired as in tired of it all. Existential fatigue and lethargy.

I am also coming to see that I am even more lonely than I thought. Probably better for another thread to say what’s going on. It’s not something I can manage by getting out more. Some of my loneliest moments have been in a crowd.

Maybe I should go see a movie in a theater. It would not ameliorate my loneliness, but movies tend to be very engrossing to me, so it is escapism.

I bit too "up" to my taste. Time to lower one of my ADs. Also, I recently learnt that I have some specific personality disorder traits (two of them, explained from both my pdoc and my therapist, separately) which makes a lot of sense to explain various events in my life. Still have to process this, but that's a promising basis for therapy work. I had to wait for way too long for someone to point these out though.

@AvidFan I also read about the runner breaking a record with broken ribs. :( I can't imagine that level. Before this I was managing to do easy very short runs a few times each week. But not now: I'm going to wait on running again until after the move. There, I will get to run and walk on softer footpaths; very much looking forward to it. It's so much nicer, despite the mud lol, than running on concrete.

I agree about getting (sort of) used to rib owies. I am somewhat clumsy but it hasn't stopped me from running and other things. My medicine cabinet and my daypack are stocked with first-aid because while I'm not assuming future injuries I want to have all the bits and bobs at hand. But I hope neither one of us falls or trip over stuff/feet again. : )
