I think the “system” is so overburdened that I would take any appointment I could get! Idk if you have more choices.
Overall, try looking for the best fit for you.
Evaluate:
specialty, (for example-eating disorders)
personality,
cost & scheduling.

My knowlege is quite limited. But-
A psychologist can make a diagnosis.
Counselors & Therapists can not.
They all can do talk therapy.
Their education levels are varied.

I hope that helps a little. Let me know what you find.

A therapist should be able to help address any of those problems you have. I would choose someone who has at least a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology.

I struggle with disordered eating, depression (moderate-severe) and social anxiety
I have a friend with these issues and he's going to see a psychologist in the near future. I'm worried though as he's pretty much already written if off as being a waste of time before he's even attended. Things are bad now and just keep getting worse, so I really do hope you find some help and if you do if you could let me know here or via a PM that would be much appreciated.

We usually know that psychologists, psychiatrists, and psychotherapists are different specialists. But to say how they differ from each other, and certainly to determine who to address with a particular illness. Sometimes it seems that all these specialists do the same thing, but it turns out that there are differences, and they are significant. When I had nervous breakdowns, they recommended a psychotherapist to identify the cause at Alveda Clinic. I can say that I was cured of my long-standing depression after six months.
