Somewhere either here or at my brother's house we have tons of old vinyl LPs from the 1960s/1970s since my dad collected those and there is probably a turntable somewhere, Humble Pie, Steppenwolf, Cream, CCR, The Doors, The Kinks, so I grew up loving those older bands popular from when I was still a kid.

They most likely are. He had ones that may have some value, first run Hank Williams Sr, and back when you had Elvis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and the list goes on.

The country music awards are on right now. But I don't think many can touch what was created in those decades. Maybe George Straight, Lol. I remember first being introduced to Cash when I was 8 or so at summer camp in Kerrville and one of the counselors had perfect pitch and would whistle and sing his music over the loudspeakers every evening. I was hooked before I even heard Cash's voice.

I agree with you about George Straight, one of the few and last honkey tonking singers. Cash is my favorite for country, and one of the tops for me. What I love even before he died was how many big stars in most genres of music thought most highly of him: R&R, country, gospel, rap, blues, rockabilly... you name it he had fans from them.

@Livelife , i love this music. I used to listen to Bessie Smith when I was in college. I collected 78s but never came across Bessie Smith. I think Janis Joplin admired her. There's recordings of her singing similar (or maybe even the same) songs. Did you ever hear? I was searching on Google but couldn't find any...😪

I love it too...this era. I googled a bit today and read that Janis(my name as well, lol) shortly before her death, contributed with another person to pay for a headstone for Ms Smith who apparently never got one. And it also mentioned her music and performance being affected by Bessie Smith's power and style.
