It means "I have an ailment" - specifically a physical malady of some kind. I feel sick, feel feverish, I feel icky in some unspecified physical way. It doesn't cover "I have pain" unless that is a headache maybe - i.e. it wouldn't cover "I broke my foot and it hurts like a bitch".

I get using 'I don't feel well' to avoid questions or just gloss over the situation but some people don't want to gloss over - some people want to love you and take care off you and tell you that you are amazing and inspiring and incredible and a hundred other good things about yourself until you hear even just one of them. I know that doesn't necessarily cure anything - I know that depression doesn't work that way - but that doesn't mean you have to hide behind 'I don't feel well'. Just sayin xxx

Usually I use this if I physically don't feel very well, without a specific cause, something like dizzy, nauseous or tired. I could also understand this as a mental bad feeling but I personally don't use it this way since I'd rather say that "I'm okay" instead.

I use 'I don't feel well' if I feel sick in some way that's not obvious or easy to describe usually. Like, if I have a headache I'll just say that, and that will explain what I can and cannot do at the moment. But if I just 'don't feel well' I might look fine but feel queasy or feverish or something, to the point where I'm probably just gonna be a lump on the couch, or if I'm doing something I'll probably move slowly and this is why.

I...don't even know what I would use to describe not feeling right in the head, because I rarely would even tell anyone that in my life. Hm. I mean I might tell my husband I'm in a shitty mood, or that I'm feeling kind of off. But I guess I don't even know in what context I'd be telling anyone else where my head is at.

I say it to myself when my head's not right. And I think I've said it to my CPN a couple of times. But I'm not great at telling anyone irl when my head's bad, I just kind of hope they can see it for themselves but that hasn't worked out so well in the past lol.

If it's mental, I'll usually say "I feel like shit". If it's physical, I'm normally more descriptive of what's wrong because people tend to understand that better.

If I’m struggling with my mental health, I’ll say My Head’s In A Fog/ I can’t think straight. This is indoors with my housemate who’s known me 27 years. If I’m physically sick it’s usually more descriptive. Outside my house I revert to (I’m fine) for mentally shitty, and descriptive for physical ailments, unless i know the person well and they *get* me.

It allows people to think what they want and not ask more questions.
I didn't see this thread before. Unless they know you! The more vague you are, the more questions I have.

I do say that I'm not feeling well when I'm mentally ugh. I also will use it in a physical sense too though. That's probably confusing for people. Although, I tend to lean more towards, I'm sick or I have a headache. Unless my body has just had a fit.
