My therapist has advised something similar for me. The fact is that there’s little I can do to help, staying informed only accomplishes so much. But I still dislike being willfully ignorant.
I’m in the same boat. I just re-read my earlier post and it’s about 3 separate posts all jumbled together. As it happened last night, I ended up doing a lot of doomscrolling, but it started with me looking something up on Wikipedia, which led to me looking up additional information, which linked to procedural information about the SCOTUS, and the train had left the station before I noticed.

I don’t want to be willfully ignorant, but what I am doing is not getting informed. I am just getting myself riled up for 7 hours a day that I should be spending on obtaining an income. The rush of righteous indignation is a heck of a drug, but it comes at the cost of my time and emotional stability.

So, stepping back would ideally be the first phase of a refocusing effort to keep me directing my time towards my priorities. I read a long time ago about a proverb in one Eastern European language that translates to, “if you want to improve the world, begin by sweeping your own porch.” That’s where I need to focus right now.

I hope that’s okay to put here, I’m really kind of processing/clarifying here as I write this out.

I am deeply disturbed by what the current administration is doing.

A photo in the NYT says it all. A distraught woman standing in her doorway clutching a phone while masked men armed with what is basically SWAT gear swarm up her steps.

I don't spend a lot of time with the news these days, but I do try to keep informed and what I learn shocks and saddens me, what has happened to my country?

I believed very strongly in the principles that I was taught this country was founded on. I became more and more disappointed as I got older and learned the ways we had failed to live up to them. Still, I thought we were better than this.

Me, too, Gonz. I am devastated.

Springsteen has done a protest song. I'll refrain from posting it, because it is disturbing with images from the abuses going on, but its called Streets of Minneapolis and can be found on Youtube.

I grew up listening to the song about Kent State, "4 dead in Ohio", I thought we as a country had grown past the need to kill its protesting citizens, but I guess not.

I am so very sad.

If only another pandemic would plague the earth, but in the end who would it hurt

If this nation could succumb to certain biblical events, in today’s times what would it prevent

If the first will be last and the last be first, how many casualties would be of that worth

If the locusts and floods and destruction like Sodom and Gomorrah, would land at the feet of those committing such horrors

Would that bring solace to many who oppose, YES, if evildoers got the boomerang effect of what they impose

I know we’re not supposed to pray harm to come to others, but I don’t see how else this reign of terror will cease, if not the death of those behind these atrocities
