I have read a lot on google, i'm just curious to know if anyone here is doing this or has done it?

Tips and suggestions are greatly welcomed. I dipped into it before but did not give it a real chance as I don't think I knew enough about it.

@HumanExMachina I know you are a fan, have you any advice for me? For instance, how long should I try it before deciding if it suits me or not.

Literally, any advice from anyone is appreciated.

Yes, I have done it. It does good things for me but I am not practicing it now. Lack of discipline. Google is definitely your friend on this subject. The first name that comes to mind as a good starting point is Dr. Rhonda Patrick

A pure delight to listen to and smart.
YouTube has a ton of her own work as well as interviews. The ones with Joe Rogan are very informative and informal. Be ready to take notes.

You will hear in her discussions talk of anti inflammatory diets and I can tell you from personal experience that this is an important part of an antidepressant strategy.

Hope this helps.

I did it unintentionally for about a year I think? Possible more? I wasn’t counting calories and i sometimes broke fast because, again, it wasn’t on purpose, but it did help me drop weight (not sure how much I didn’t own a scale). It’s easier to get into if you have a structure and distractions, such as school or work, but either way you’re gonna be tired and foggy brained I’m fairly certain Maybe those go away if you’re eating enough calories, but I don’t know *dunno Oh and of course you’ll be hungry at first, but if you still with it your hunger signals will disappear eventually

The main thing to keep in mind is - -ITS NOT A MIRACLE CURE- - aka, you can’t eat infinite calories and still expect to lose weight, it’s really just a system for managing your intake. Of course I’m not saying you don’t know this petal! It’s just the way the media and fans of the system tend to portray it (along with Keto and stuff) so I wanted to re-emphasise the importance of calories in-calories out.

Another thing I’d like to mention is that, in My experience, if you start eating normally again then intermittent Fast, it’ll be harder to lose your hunger signals cause your body is still trying to recover from messing them up the last time. It gets worse every time to stop and restart. Though again this might just be me, due to me doing it unhealthily? Not sure

Miscellaneous advice:
Black coffee helps
You may want to take metabolism boosters
Cut out liquid calories
The first meal should be light
Don’t eat anything too sweet as you last meal or part of meal, it’ll make you crave more sugar as you fall asleep

Hope this was helpful, sorry if I rambled I’ve been up all night and may not be 100% coherent

Do it with a dr/nurse's guidance.
As @A.Generic.sam said, calories in/out - the point of it is that your body is ultimately consuming less because on the day or 2 that you're eating less, or if you're doing it between times, you're eating less. Another point is that you're letting your body digest/absorb before eating more. That's just my understanding from when I researched and played with it.

I fast for 14 hours a day, @Petal . Essentially, I don't eat or drink anything other than water before 10AM, or after 8PM. It takes some time for your body to adjust, and if you're used to snacking during those periods, the cravings for the first week or two are a nightmare. Sleeping during that time makes things a bit easier, of course, and aids in the bodily processes that are brought into the fore by the practice.
It DOES take some discipline - but like I said, once you get past the first couple of weeks, it gets easier, and you can feel the difference pretty quickly.

@Petal , sorry I somehow overlooked the tag, and only saw the thread just now. Best advice, hmm, let's see...I'm mostly brain dead from work right now, but two easy ones spring to mind:

1. Incorporate your regular sleeping time as much as possible into your daily fasting schedule, makes it a lot easier. People naturally do a mild form of IF every day just by going to sleep.

2. Probably the most important of the two bits of advice: Don't over think it. Don't stress over it. IF is not a big deal. Whole books have been written about it, and fortunes have been made talking about it, but I can give you the basic gist of IF with 5 words:

Skip one meal a day.

That's it! :)

Intermittent fasting is pretty simple and uncomplicated, you just have a short eating-window.

I suggest you start slow, first eliminate all the snacks from your diet and eat only 3 meals per day and when you get comfortable with that, just skip breakfast. Yes, skip the breakfast! ( the whole "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" thing is a lie)
After you get comfortable with just 2 meals a day, try to squeeze your eating window together.

Pay attention to your potassium intake, most people don't take enough potassium.
Don't try to gulp everything down to 'compensate' for fasting.
Eat only when you're really hungry (watch the first video) and choose the right pattern of IF for your needs.

Here's a video or Dr. Eric Berg on Intermittent Fasting for beginners.

See videos of Dr. Eric Berg DC & Dr. Jason Fung on YouTube, they have lots of information on fasting.
