Thanks Auri for the Cafe, and the invitel. Im curious where you found these days, which site? (I usually end up using https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/2021/03/01/ but it doesnt mention a lot of these)
I checked and I used the same site... but for March 2020. *rofl I think when I googled the page wasn't updated for today yet, I'm not sure. I just used it for inspiration as I'm not creative enough to make up a theme. ^^

I still have all my old trophies
Trophies in? :)

my notes from university... and no, I dont think I can throw these out (especially my notes, I paid tends of thousands and opened myself up to depression to take those notes damn it!)
I so relate to that, but I also have all my notes from high school. *hiding Here's a tiny part of my university junk beautifully stacked on the floor cause I have no space on my bookshelves (there's even lots in my parents' room, it's bad). :D No way I throw them away... It's proof of my 6 years of suffering.

(7) Self-care Day : Okay, that's not true... but I needed a 7th one and I wanted you to do something positive for yourself today, so what is it you plan on doing? :) If you need ideas, it's also "Banana Cream Pie Day", "Read an E-book Week", "Write a Letter Appreciation Week" and "British Pie Week". Have fun!It IS world compliment day... just saying... oh wait, that as yesterday.
So what will you do for self-care today? :)

Thanks for all the book recommendations! *stars

(1) Read Across America Day : What's a book you'd recommend? What are you reading right now? The Chronicles of Narnia series. Not currently reading anything.

(2) Old Stuff Day : Anything that's been gathering dust that you need to get rid of? Why do you keep it? Will you keep it after answering this question? Any old but significant belongings?
You mean aside from myself? lol
There's lots of stuff I could get rid of, like clothes I never wear, but I keep them for some inexplicable reason. I keep some stuff because it has a lot of meaning.

(3) Fun Facts About Names Day : What are your favourite names? I love names! If you're willing to share, what's the etymology behind yours? or a fun fact about your name?
Amber and Julian are a few names I like. Don't think there's anything too significant about my name.

(4) Women in Construction Week : I have no question about that, but I wanted to point it out cause it's awesome. :D
Yes it is :D

(5) Procrastination Week : Any advice for us all procrastinators? :D
I'll tell you next week. Seriously, I'm bad at this too.

(6) Universal Human Beings Week : What's the most beautiful thing about humanity?
The people that care about you no matter what and won't give up on you.

Have fun!
Going out of town tomorrow and doing some shopping.

Ah, I found out why they dont line up, I was looking at yesterday...

I was in Boys Bregade... I got a few trophies for things... I was even in the BB Marching band in the Lord Mayors show for a few years running.

I so relate to that, but I also have all my notes from high school. *hiding Here's a tiny part of my university junk beautifully stacked on the floor cause I have no space on my bookshelves (there's even lots in my parents' room, it's bad). :D No way I throw them away... Yep :) Realistically they are just taking up space, but... cant throw them, that and I opened some of my Uni notes a while back to see if my non-depressed (or less-depressed) mind found them any easier. They were MUCH easier. Concepts I simply couldn't wrap my head around before seemed almost obvious... If I did this degree without depression I think I may have got a very good grade...

So what will you do for self-care today? :)
Aha, I thought I had snuck past that one :P
Thanks for all the book recommendations! *stars
Youre welcome. Also, anything by Terry Pratchett, and "John Dies At The End" and subsequent books are great too if a bit... well.. like the world on drugs.

You don't say... So? ;)

I also always think how things would've been different if I had no mental health issues during uni... But those concepts don't seem any easier today, if anything they're even harder to get. :D Well, it's not like my mental health has been exponentially declining... *halo

(1) Read Across America Day : What's a book you'd recommend? What are you reading right now?

I'd recommend my favorite book of all time: Perfume: The story of a murderer by Patrick Süskind. I'm currently reading Dianetics: Evolution of a Science by L. Ron Hubbard.

(2) Old Stuff Day : Anything that's been gathering dust that you need to get rid of? Why do you keep it? Will you keep it after answering this question? Any old but significant belongings?
I have only the necessary stuff in my house. Whenever I clean, I throw away some stuff. I have one old but significant belonging. It's an old cushion my previous cat used to sleep in. The cat died, I have a new one now, but I have fond memories of my previous cat, I think it's the only thing I still have from that time. He died in 2017.
(3) Fun Facts About Names Day : What are your favourite names? I love names! If you're willing to share, what's the etymology behind yours? or a fun fact about your name?
My favorite names are Claudia, which means sky, and I like traditional old names that are not currently used anymore such as Hilbert. Unusual names.
My name comes from Greek daktilos which means wisdom and instruction. My parents found about my name in an encyclopedia. I also have a fun story.
My father was a Star Wars fan and he wanted to name me Spock after the alien in the series but my mother, grandmother and other women wouldn't let him.
(4) Women in Construction Week : I have no question about that, but I wanted to point it out cause it's awesome. :D
(5) Procrastination Week : Any advice for us all procrastinators? :D
Do one thing at a time. Do not start a new project until finishing the current one. Multitasking may seem as more efficient but you take longer to complete both or more tasks and it has a demotivating effect.
(6) Universal Human Beings Week : What's the most beautiful thing about humanity?
Human beings are not beautiful. They are like a plague to this world, a can of swarming worms is more beautiful than humanity. Nietzche said it well:
"Books for all the world are always foul-smelling books: the smell of petty people clings to them. Where the people eats and drinks, even where they worship, there is usually a stink. One should not go to church if one wants to breathe pure air."
Have fun!

I signed up for a service, futureme.org, you can send letters to yourself in the future. I like writing letters. Will do one for my birthday soon, this way I don't get sad when no one remembers.

Looking for people who will accept me for who I am
#27
Thanks for the invite, Auri.

1. "Introduction to Buddhism." By Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. It's a book I'm constantly reading, always rereading sections I've already read. "Heros, Gods and Monsters of the Greek Myths" is another one I'm constantly reading.

2. My sofa and coffee table. Each is more than twenty years old, but they have more character than any other pieces of furniture I've ever seen. My sofa fits me, like a really comfortable piece of clothing. The coffee table looks it age more than the sofa, but it's perfect for me. It's very large, plenty of room, and the top lifts up to become the perfect table at the perfect height while sitting on my comfy sofa. This is where I eat and write, and when I'm watching a movie or a concert, it's the perfect place to put my feet up.

3. My favorite name is and always will be Autumn. It means a lot to me. It's my favorite season, and the name I wish I had been given if I'd been born female. Autumn symbolizes the person I want to be when I leave my home, and the person I get to be here.

4. Women are the superior of the two sexes. This world would be a very different place if women were in control; much better in every way. Society would not resemble what's now considered "normal" in any way if women were the dominate influence.

5. Don't put too much pressure on yourself to get everything done at once. Patience. Sometimes it really is better to take your time, wait, think about what you have or want to do. Better to do something right than fast.

6. Love.

7. Checking in to this site is something positive I do for myself just about every day. Thank you, everyone.

(1) Read Across America Day : What's a book you'd recommend? What are you reading right now?

I only read fanfictions at night, hehe.

(2) Old Stuff Day : Anything that's been gathering dust that you need to get rid of? Why do you keep it? Will you keep it after answering this question? Any old but significant belongings?

I just want to have good sleep everyday..

(3) Fun Facts About Names Day : What are your favourite names? I love names! If you're willing to share, what's the etymology behind yours? or a fun fact about your name?

Heh. Idk about dat but I like calling everyone “pooo pooo” like its a polite way of calling people “whats up my lovely little shits.”

(5) Procrastination Week : Any advice for us all procrastinators? :D

Manage, value your time. Don’t waste a single second. When you get paid at work, you’re not allowed to do that. Time is money.

(6) Universal Human Beings Week : What's the most beautiful thing about humanity?

Rainbows & sunshines! :D

Have fun!

I sleep and gives my body as much comfort as I can. I have been sleeping a lot lately cause my doctors haven’t fix my sleeping issue and I’m just trying to tolerate it meanwhile so hence, I am always pampering myself to either do something light/ do nothing day... Anything to not trigger my blood pressure.

Hey everyone. :) I hope you're all having a fantastic day, or a very peaceful night! *stars Join us for a morning coffee or tea. What are you up to today?

Feel free to answer whatever you want, or just come say hi and sit with us. *hug So today is :

(1) Read Across America Day : What's a book you'd recommend? What are you reading right now?
Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. The story of the Buddha realising material treasures are not the most beautiful things in the world. It’s so beautifully written, I think it’s for people of all faiths or no faiths.
(2) Old Stuff Day : Anything that's been gathering dust that you need to get rid of? Why do you keep it? Will you keep it after answering this question? Any old but significant belongings?
Not too much. I just got rid of a bunch of stuff.
(3) Fun Facts About Names Day : What are your favourite names? I love names! If you're willing to share, what's the etymology behind yours? or a fun fact about your name?
Elizabeth for women and William for men. Such elegant names.
(4) Women in Construction Week : I have no question about that, but I wanted to point it out cause it's awesome. :D
Women rock. There’s nothing more to add.
(5) Procrastination Week : Any advice for us all procrastinators? :D
There is actually a formula to overcome procrastination. We are moved to do what needs to be done when the PAIN of NOT DOING IT is GREATER THAN (>) the PAIN of DOING IT.
So, basically, we put things off until the last minute because that’s the last chance before there are consequences.
So, then, how do we OVERCOME procrastination? We think about how putting things off causes us MORE STRESS than PLEASURE, because when we are truly procrastinating, we’re not enjoying that time. There is a difference between procrastinating and prioritising something to be done later. The latter doesn’t bother us.
(6) Universal Human Beings Week : What's the most beautiful thing about humanity?
Laughter.
Have fun!
I finally put together an elliptical machine I bought but was sitting in the corner for a MONTH! Exercise is a form of self-care.

Feel free to invite your friends I haven't tagged (my list was a bit random) and a new member you haven't met yet. Also, feel free to volunteer to open tomorrow's Jim's Café. It's fun! *stars

Old Stuff Day :
I have an electric keyboard and an acoustic guitar, which I believe I got on my 18th birthday. I didn't know which one I wanted more, so my parents ended up getting me both. Totally undeserved, especially since I never properly got into playing either of them and the reasons for it are pretty silly.

I'll stick with the one instrument I've been playing for most of my life, probably, that being my voice.

Fun Facts About Names Day :
I had never looked into my name before now, as I always thought it was a fairly basic name that likely didn't have much of a meaning to it if any.

My name is Ryan, which is apparently of Irish origin, coming from the Old Irish name Rian, and supposedly means "little king" or "illustrious". I say supposedly because I just looked at Wikipedia which says that those meanings come from "popular modern sources" and that the original meaning is unknown. It's speculated that the name is so ancient that the meaning was lost before it could ever be recorded.

Very mysterious...

Thank you for opening and inviting me Auri.:)

(1) Read Across America Day : What's a book you'd recommend? What are you reading right now?
"One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Gabriel García Márquez will probably always be my best book.
Right now I'm reading tv manual feeling like an idiot because I can't figure it out.

(2) Old Stuff Day : Anything that's been gathering dust that you need to get rid of? Why do you keep it? Will you keep it after answering this question? Any old but significant belongings?
I moved so many times in my life and always had pretty limited space so I had to learn not to get attached to any of my stuff. Even now that I live in a big house I throw or give away things I don't need or know that will never use again. My man likes to keep all kinds of useles junk and we negotiate a lot.
The only significant belonging I'll keep forever is my father's flute.

(3) Fun Facts About Names Day : What are your favourite names? I love names! If you're willing to share, what's the etymology behind yours? or a fun fact about your name?
I like so many different names, don't care about the meaning and origin but the right pronunciation is very important.
Female: Chiara, Adria, Catalina, Fiona, Lea, Octavia, Pia, Ula, Zoya, Lana, Lara...
Male: Tilen, Alen, Tim, Manú, Matias, Mateo, Teo, Xavier, Tibor, Gal...
Acording to Google my name means "Royalty" from African origin, "He (God) has favored me" in Hewbrew and "Sweet" in Sanskrit.

(4) Women in Construction Week : I have no question about that, but I wanted to point it out cause it's awesome.
I don't see why not.

(5) Procrastination Week : Any advice for us all procrastinators?
No advise, but I know I should never force myself to do anything if I don't feel like doing it because I'll do a shitty job and feel worse. I had to wait for the right moment, day, week, month...lol. I used to feel guilty but I more or less came to my senses.

(6) Universal Human Beings Week : What's the most beautiful thing about humanity?
Love.

I've done a little too much self carring in the past few months so I have a few kilos to lose now.

Thanks for the tag @Auri @JDot
(1) Read Across America Day :
What's a book you'd recommend? I'd recommend The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Very funny sci-fi novel. Even if you're not a huge sci-fi fan, it's a fun read. One drawback is that there's not a lot of female characters and I believe Douglas Adams admitted in the past to not being very comfortable writing women. So that kinda sucks. But it's still enjoyable
What are you reading right now? I've been rereading Catch-22 for the millionth time and I'm considering starting to read The Happiness Industry by William Davies
(2) Old Stuff Day :
Anything that's been gathering dust that you need to get rid of? Why do you keep it? Tbh I haven't even unpacked all my boxes since moving into my new house at the beginning of December, so probably. The answer is laziness.
Will you keep it after answering this question? Yes. You think you can defeat my laziness that easily?
Any old but significant belongings? Not really. Had to leave most of my stuff behind when I left Lancaster for San Francisco in 2014.
(3) Fun Facts About Names Day :
What are your favourite names? I love names! I like Alexander/Alexandra. Haven't thought too much about names lately, but I used to when I wrote stories.
If you're willing to share, what's the etymology behind yours? or a fun fact about your name? A lot of people on here don't know my real name because I just use the pseudonym Yossarian (which no one calls me anyway :P ). @Auri I believe you do know it from sending me a card. I don't know the etymology behind either my pseudonym or my real name. I've tried to look it up and found conflicting information. My real name is something I just sort of thought of to sound cool and not too different from my birthname but different enough, and Yossarian is just the main character of Catch-22. The character claims to be Assyrian, but I've heard from several sources that it is an Armenian name.
(4) Women in Construction Week :
I have no question about that, but I wanted to point it out cause it's awesome. :D Cool :)
(5) Procrastination Week :
Any advice for us all procrastinators? :D Nope, I've got it bad.
(6) Universal Human Beings Week :
What's the most beautiful thing about humanity? I guess just the general capacity for good things and grand feats, etc. Or even just love.
(7) Self-care Day :
Okay, that's not true... but I needed a 7th one and I wanted you to do something positive for yourself today, so what is it you plan on doing? :) If you need ideas, it's also "Banana Cream Pie Day", "Read an E-book Week", "Write a Letter Appreciation Week" and "British Pie Week". Have fun! The 2nd only started a few hours ago here, but I'm planning on probably going to Trader Joe's later, which is a really fun place to grocery shop, and they have so much good stuff. I'm gonna allow myself to go wild :P

1. What's a book you'd recommend? What are you reading right now?

Last night I finished the Far Pavillions and probably after I finish answering this post I am going to start reading from the Grimm Fairy Tales.

Books I would recommend,

From my recently read I would recommend,

Dracula if you love horror, I was completely blown away by that one.
Catch 22, Yossarian is one of the best fictional comedy characters about the second world war.
I read Pride and Prejudice, I thought I would hate it but I fell in love with Elizabeth and Jane so I would recommend it.
All the Spud books, because I am South African, I will not stop plugging the series to everyone, it is a brilliant series.
The Godfather, I hate the movies but damn the book was amazing, now I would like to go into organized crime, I have been convinced lol
The Diary of Anne Frank, I read it just after Christmas and I cried a lot throughout it, but if you can make it and truly learn from Anne it will change your life forever. (fun fact Anne gets more letters from kids each year than Santa does, at least I remember seen that please check me before you quote me)
And I would recommend the Far Pavillions as well it was recommended to me by another member here on this forum and it made me fall in love with India and Ash and Juli and I dare anyone who reads it not to fall the same way.
And I have not read it lately but Hound of the Baskervilles for the best detective novel ever written.

2. Anything that's been gathering dust that you need to get rid of? Why do you keep it? Will you keep it after answering this question? Any old but significant belongings?

I do not have anything. All my stuff gets sold every time I leave home for a few days so I have nothing.

3. What are your favorite names? I love names! If you're willing to share, what's the etymology behind yours? or a fun fact about your name?

I do not really have any favorite names, If I like someone then I automatically like their name, if I do not like you I end up hating the sound of your name. yes I know I am a complicated man lol

I will share a story about my surname, but I cannot share my surname so bear with me here.
In the early 1700s my great, great (insert the appropriate amount of greats here) Grandfather had the surname Taylor in Yorkshire, where he was then press-ganged into the Navy. Unhappy with the navy he eventually escaped to South Africa and ending up in Mosselbay, married a woman, and took her surname, my current surname. That is how our family name changed.
Then after a good couple of years, he and his wife returned to Yorkshire, but his ancestors keep coming back here, and that is how I came to be born in South Africa.

4. Any advice for us all procrastinators?

Only something I do, start small, doing even a minute of something is better than doing nothing at all, so start like that, if you want to study every day, start by studying five minutes a day for the first week, then keep increasing that time by five minutes each week on, that way you build up habits and you do not get overwhelmed all in one go, increasing your activity level in whatever activity you want to stop being lazy about.
Start small work your way up instead of starting big and stopping almost as quickly.

5. What's the most beautiful thing about humanity?

The small things. Saying hello to someone having a bad day. Sharing a smile. Things like that for me.

6. so what is it you plan on doing today? :)

I am going to hopefully go to the gym a little later, that is my way of looking after myself.

Sorry, I wrote too much *hiding

(1) Read Across America Day : What's a book you'd recommend? What are you reading right now?
I haven't read in far too long :(*hiding but I don't live in America so I can avoid this one ;)
) Old Stuff Day : Anything that's been gathering dust that you need to get rid of?
Do I count?

(3) Fun Facts About Names Day : What are your favourite names? I love names!
Well whether a name is good depends on what the name is for :D but any name that's Elegant or beautiful sounding I'm sure to love.

I'll come back to this cafe and say something about this later ;)
Well I go home and then I didn't get to this until I'm about to go to bed. So all I have to say about Procrastination is that I'm very guilty of it. So I'm not one to come to for advice :D*hiding

(6) Universal Human Beings Week : What's the most beautiful thing about humanity?
Just going to say creation. But if I have to be more specific, then music.

(7) Self-care Day : Okay, that's not true... but I needed a 7th one and I wanted you to do something positive for yourself today, so what is it you plan on doing?
Well I've become rather bad at self care as of late. But I keep myself caffeinated so brain work

Good morning! Thank you for opening Cafe & tagging me today @Auri .

1. I recommend book #1 and this author and I'm reading the 2nd one now. It captures many moments in the book and I Screenshot_20210302-060759.jpg IMG_20210302_061013.jpg really like the author.

2) ha, I did just get rid of my old suits. Never to be worn again.

3) I like @Autumn1973 and I did name my daughter that ☺️. I like the name Meadow and Heather, Aopelonia. For guys off the top of my head, Angelo, Vincent, Maximo.

4) I set a timer for 15 minutes and do chores. Or do chores half naked in the cold so you get it done. Yup.

5) I really have to think, I would say the most beautiful that I know of is teaching because it's the most human thing we can do for each other that comes naturally. Secondly, healing each other as in medically and in the form of comforting the sick, unwell and dying.

6) today is my usual, go to work and for that I'm grateful. Had a good day yesterday and hopefully it continues as I was on quarantine last week.
