I know I'm a couple of days late on this one, but I'm a very nostalgic person, and this struck a chord for me. Thank you for these questions!

1) What's a song that makes you feel nostalgic, something you hear and basically flash back to a better time?

I listen a lot to older music because I just love the stuff I grew up with. But while I'm not sure it takes me back to a better time in my mind, Overkill by Men at Work is so beautiful. Stops me in my tracks every time. "Ghosts appear and fade away..."

Anything Duran Duran will make me smile too.

2) Are you a nostalgic person? Or do you tend to always be looking ahead?

I'm super nostalgic. I've always kind of been this way, but mostly after my parents died, I only wanted to live in the past. All the TV we watched together, all of the movies I discovered then, when I was more open. It feels so good, and I return to them often.

3) What's a good memory that you look back on fondly? Feel free to go into as much or as little as you like.

When I first moved out of my parent's house, I relocated to a nearby city and visited home often. Every time I'd walk through the door on a visit, my father would be standing at the end of the hallway, waiting for me. Every single time. He timed it perfectly. I'd see his beautiful face, and just melt. He was everything to me.

4) What was the "best" time of your life? Why?

I think a few years ago. I had everything i wanted. I was falling in love so deeply with someone that, for a time, gave me everything. He took away the pain of loss and he made me feel beautiful. It was a very dysfunctional relationship (we're both married to other people), but for just a brief period of time, I understood love and hope. I miss feeling these things.

5) Do you think that in 5-10 years you'll be looking back on where you are now?

This era of my life has been really dark and a little harrowing. If I make it to the 5 year mark, I do think I'll remember this and hopefully be in a better place. Maybe this period will allow me perspective?

6) What's something you own that has a lot of nostalgic/sentimental value to you?

I have a top I wore that the man I love told me I looked very beautiful in. I haven't worn it since we stopped talking, but I'll run across it and remember his warmth.

7) Do you ever try to "relive" those times.

Yes, but it's negative. I do desperate things for attention, thinking someone else will fill the void that was left behind by this person. I'm working on it.

8) Do you think we look back at the past fairly? Or do we see things as better, or worse, than they actually were at the time?

Nostalgia can be deadly. Personal nostalgia can be comforting and help us through certain times. To return to good feelings is very positive. But to look back historically and say, "It was better then," as a general statement of culture or the world is dangerous. That's something we have to keep moving forward with.

Hey all, hope everyones having a great day/night/timeless void.
I volunteered to open the cafe today so here I am.

So todays theme is about nostalgia. Because who doesn't love thinking back to the better times when happiness seemed achievable and the crushing weight of being alive didn't seem like too much to bear : )
So here's to looking back at better times and hoping to have good times to look back on again in the future.

So, questions, those are important.. I think.
1) What's a song that makes you feel nostalgic, something you hear and basically flash back to a better time? ⚫ I don't have one, and not many better times in life, so I would say it's many songs that bring fragments of time back. The last one I recall hearing that gave me that feeling and agood memory associated was Spacehog "in the meantime" it reminded me of driving down PCH in Cali by the beach at fourteen, imagining the world that I could have ...someday in the future. A time of hope.
2) Are you a nostalgic person? Or do you tend to always be looking ahead? Yes, fascinated by history and good memories but my life was a lie so very little to feel nostaligac about. Due to trauma and a suicidal system I do not look ahead it's terrifying. I also don't look back personally anymore due to amnesia, as all I get is pain and flashbacks all day/night long so when I don't experience that in any moment, I'm not looking back for it. But I am nostalgic for moments and things of the past in general, I love memorabilia and old things even if not mine. And if I could remember good memories I'd be soaking them up.
3) What's a good memory that you look back on fondly? Feel free to go into as much or as little as you like. The day I met all my animal family members. Very happy, tender, hopeful and loving moments, something I really can't put into words but so grateful I have those memories with me still in some capacity.
4) What was the "best" time of your life? Why? From 19-22 why? I thought I was free and my life was finally beginning, their was much struggle but hope and positivity I'd never experienced before.
5) Do you think that in 5-10 years you'll be looking back on where you are now? I fucking goddamned hope not.
6) What's something you own that has a lot of nostalgic/sentimental value to you? My gloworm.
7) Do you ever try to "relive" those times. Yes, as a form of therapy for traumatic amnesia, but now, otherwise, mostly not. When I have someone close to share good times with, yes I do, but that's rare now..
8) Do you think we look back at the past fairly? Or do we see things as better, or worse, than they actually were at the time?
great question. Due to being a dissociative multiple this topic has been a theme I've discussed, studied and thought about quite a lot. Too much to go into deeply, but yes and no. We do filter things through our emotional bias, so it depends the human, the circumstances, the strength of a person's memory, whether trauma occurred and how the brain reacted and so on. In nostalgia, I def see things as better than they were or exactly how they were...like I love th sixties as a decade but it's ridiculous to ignore all the terrible things that occurred, but when I think of it I'm not thinking of the negatives, so my bias makes me unfairly celebrate it, but also fairly celebrates the positives that occurred as well, because as well know mini skirts are bitchin' and tons of music music. Great complicated topic of memory and how it works.

Thanks for the invite, JMG *hugThanks for opening the cage, OfLoveAndDeath.

1. "Don't Stop Believing," by Journey. It doesn't make me flash back to a better time, it just makes me feel hopeful.

2. I am nostalgic. Don't really look ahead that much, if at all.

3. My time in my high school's theater company. Late 80s to early 90s. This lead into the best time of my life.

4. The 90s, when I was dating my ex-wife and got engaged and then married. The early 2000s were really good, too. It was all so new, and special. Starting a new life together in Florida, landing my job at the Space Center.

5. I probably will be looking back on this time. Maybe not as much as I look back on other times in my life, but I will look back on where I am right now.

6. I have a memory box filled with numerous items of beautiful emotions from my years with my ex-wife. Starting from when we started dating through the end of our marriage. I realize now that it was never meant to be, but there are plenty of wonderful memories...more good than bad. Also have a memory box from my time at the Space Center, and another one from my time in theater. I haven't opened these boxes in years. They're packed away in the back of a closet. But it's nice knowing they're there.

7. Only in my memories.

8. Not always. I've discovered over the years that things are never as bad as they seem, but they're also not quite as good.
