Hello all, this is a sombre cafe today as it deals with a rather serious topic. Lost Sock Memorial Day. Today we pay remembrance to all those socks who have been lost in the wash, from our gym bags, or wore through protecting out feet from discomfort. We salute you oh brave and noble socks, your sacrifices will be remembered.

Fun Facts:
1) The word socks come from the Roman "soccus", a loose-fitting slipper worn by Roman comedy actors on stage, had no buckles or ties and was usually made of leather or woven fabric.
2) UK national odd-sock day takes place in mid November and is actually celebrated in schools (the kids get a kick out of it), and marks the start of anti-bullying week.
3) Approximately 40% of the worlds socks are produced in the city of Datang in China which earned it the nickname of "Sock City".
4) A study by the University of Groningen in the Netherlands did a study showing that wearing socks during sex has a notable positive impact on the experience. Thank you socks.

Sock Table
Yes, a table about socks, wonderful isn't it?
1) Do you wear socks in pairs or odd socks?
2) Describe your favourite pair of socks
3) How often do you buy new socks

5) Have you ever worn socks with sandals? (Be honest)

Health Table

3) Do you like, tolerate or hate doctors?
4) Are you comfortable in hospitals or hate them?
5) Do you have a long term illness and are you willing to tell us about it?

Philosophy Table
Because it is never a bad time for Philosophy, feel free to answer 1 or all 3.
1) If you could guarantee honesty, what 2 questions would let you get the best idea of who a person truly is?

This is quite a serious topic. I have to check my wardrobe and drawers.

Sox Table

Do you wear socks in pairs or odd socks? - In pair.
Describe your favourite pair of socks - Grayish black.
How often do you buy new socks - Once in a while.
How many socks have you lost? - Many.
Have you ever worn socks with sandals? (Be honest) - I have tried that. It's strange.

Heltha Table

How is your health today? - I'm not too suicidal now. So, better.
When was the last time you saw a doctor/nurse? - 2 years ago.
Do you like, tolerate or hate doctors? - Tolerate.
Are you comfortable in hospitals or hate them? - Not quite comfortable.
Do you have a long term illness and are you willing to tell us about it?
- Is casually having suicidal thoughts on daily basis a long term illness? Either that or my sensitivities.

Phil o' sofi Table

If you could guarantee honesty, what 2 questions would let you get the best idea of who a person truly is?

- How that person acts around someone deemed weaker and how that person acts around someone deemed stronger, in terms of power to make a choice in life.

Is suffering a necessary part of the human condition? What would people who never suffered be like?

- According to most religions, yes. Those who never suffered are the ones on heaven. Each religion has different explanations to all this.

Is it possible to live a normal life and not ever tell a lie?
- It's abnormal to never tell a lie, but it's possible if you know how to phrase well.

I think I should make another Jim's Cafe thread. I'm not sure when.

1) Do you wear socks in pairs or odd socks?

In pairs but all of my socks are exactly the same.

Darned Tough, wool socks and good wool is warm when chilly and breathes and is quite cool when warmer, the only drawback is good wool is on the expensive side, but always buy quality.

3) How often do you buy new socks

The ones I have now about 4 or 5 years old, no lack of elasticity and wear.

4) How many socks have you lost?

None that I know of.

5) Have you ever worn socks with sandals? (Be honest)

I am normally just wearing socks only

1) If you could guarantee honesty, what 2 questions would let you get the best idea of who a person truly is?

Complete honesty with both. Are you an asshole? Are you worthless?

2) Is suffering a necessary part of the human condition? What would people who never suffered be like?

Probably outside of reality from what most people go through

3) Is it possible to live a normal life and not ever tell a lie?

I doubt it

thank you @Dante for opening the cafe and inviting me. i am having a great day so i'll try to answer more questions, and it's a noble thing to remember our poor deceased or lost socks, i wonder if they will be in heaven waiting for me when i go.

bar first :

hi
and i think all men ( and women ) are created equal. but the circumstances of who and where we are born, socio-economic condition, family life, and resources at hand, plus thousands of other things make us unique individuals. also i think death can be a welcome and fulfilling end if we are happy with how our life turned out, the good and the bad.

sock table :

1. pairs or odd : always pairs. i buy the same diabetic black socks all the time. so if i lose a sock or one prematurely wears out i can still have a matching pair. no more wasting a good sock because i lost or wore out 1 sock out.

2. favorite sock : black diabetic socks because they go with everything and are very comfortable.

3. how often do i buy socks : never i have my wife buy them.

4. how many lost socks : put it this way if all the lost or worn socks fell on me i'd be crushed.

5. socks with sandals : never because i can't stand having my feet showing.

health

1. how is my health : to a normal person my health would be considered bad, but i am much better than i was a few years ago.

2. last time i saw a doctor or nurse : in person was a nurse around 9 months ago my pcp was about a year and a half ago but i'm seeing him in person in june, also seeing my lung specialist in june, that's been 2 or 3 years ago.

3. like, tolerate or hate doctors : depends on the doctor. my pcp i started to see after i had a bad doctor. i told both of them what i expected and what i will tolerate, so the first doctor broke our agreement that's when i found my current one. we made an agreement to work together and have ever since. he always listens to me and cares more about me than money, i've been with him for over 20 years. i mostly tolerate all of my doctors and like them if they listen and unfiortunately don't go back if they won't listen.

4. comfortable or hate hospitals : i am very uncomfortable visiting with people in the hospital. being admitted i always get nervous. when i was in for a few weeks 3 years ago it was terrible, but at the end after i could finally wipe my own %#^ i was comfortable. i was actually nervous to go home.

5. illness : i suffer from chronic leg pain which i need morphine, hydro-morphone, and mmj to survive, as well as lower back pain. i try to keep my pain level at 4 or 5 but get spikes that go much higher at night, that's what the hydros are for. i also have insulin dependant diabetes.
i have 2 different pens i have to take 1 in morning and 1 at night. i have pretty severe copd (49% lung capacity). i hope it went up a little in the past 2 years. of course obesity but i'm working on that and making progress. my mental health has been a miracle. my depression and anxiety are doing great no problem for months except 1 night i had a ptsd attack. so like i said outside looking in i'm pretty bad off but i'm still fighting and as long as i improve a little it's a great victory.,

and i have something to say about nurses and nurses aids etc.

doctors do their job but in the hospital it's the nurses that help you get better. they take care of you get whatever you want or need for food snacks etc. they give you your meds, look at my ugly ass to give me a shot, measure and empty the urinal, even help you when you have to go and wipe you. what these wonderful nurses and nurses aids do is an act of kindness and empathy beyond what i could ever endure, not to mention dealing with patients that don't make it. in my opinion nurses are heroes.

philosophy

1. gauranteed answers to know people : i think if i could find out how honest a person is and how much empathy for people and animals i would know what kind of a person they are.

2. is human suffering neccessary : suffering is definitely normal and neccessary. as we get older our parents die, we suffer even though we know that's normal. we lose a job, a dog or whatever happens we do suffer. when we suffer let's say a financial disaster we appreciate what we have when we climb back up. suffering in life is terrible but neccessary. one point is those of us that have suffered to get better can help others because we understand other people's pain.

3. can we get through life without lies : absolutely not. most of us with kids lie about santa clause, is that a story? yes but still a lie. if your spouse comes home with a horrible hair cut we tell them it's different and looks good on them. you do these things because we don't want to hurt them. if you want to sell your car you ask 10% or 20% more so they can talk you down and you both feel good. i think people need to lie in certain times. but most of the time we should be true and honest.

1) How is your health today? It's alright, I'm really sleepy though.
2) When was the last time you saw a doctor/nurse? On Wednesday, I saw the dermatologist. My hair didn't grow much since I cut it last year and it's been bothering me.
3) Do you like, tolerate or hate doctors? Idc about them, but it would be good if my husband/boyfriend will be a doctor lol.
4) Are you comfortable in hospitals or hate them? Never been to one, I suppose I will think it's very dirty since I am a bit obsessive.
5) Do you have a long term illness and are you willing to tell us about it? I do not, or maybe I have a depression and anxiety(?). Never been diagnosed with it though. Just kinda feel that could be the case.

Tysm for the tag @Dante & for opening the cafe. Love those facts and what you said about lost sock memorial day being a somber topic, hilarious! I mean um, yes, very sad and serious indeed. Lol :p ;) Happy bday to @FlamingoWrangler & @FrainBart too, hope you guys have a great day :)

Sock Table

1) Do you wear socks in pairs or odd socks?
Pairs

2) Describe your favourite pair of socks
Best to just put a pic so here is a link to the pic --->>> https://i.etsystatic.com/12473040/c...ad1/2385937896/il_300x300.2385937896_9g3l.jpg
(The pair I have are the pink pair & I think they are very cute) :)

3) How often do you buy new socks
Not very often overall I guess. If I'm in a store that sells them then I check out what they have. I have lots of pairs though so I think I'm good for awhile lol.

4) How many socks have you lost?
Lots, a lot more when I was younger than now though.

5) Have you ever worn socks with sandals? (Be honest)
Yes, not recently though.

Health Table

1) How is your health today?
It's ok I guess...

2) When was the last time you saw a doctor/nurse?
A couple months ago, went to the doc to get a refill.

3) Do you like, tolerate or hate doctors?
Tolerate, I mean I'm grateful for them and all they do of course but I don't particularly like having to go to them.

4) Are you comfortable in hospitals or hate them?
I don't hate them, but I'm not comfortable in them either. Let's just say I don't like them very much.

5) Do you have a long term illness and are you willing to tell us about it?
Not a physical one.

Philosophy Table

1) If you could guarantee honesty, what 2 questions would let you get the best idea of who a person truly is?
Hard one to answer since diff. questions will be required depending on the person. The most I think I can say for this is the general subjects to ask about would be what the person thinks of animals and what they think the meaning of life is.

2) Is suffering a necessary part of the human condition? What would people who never suffered be like?
Necessary? I like to think such a thing is never "necessary" but I guess it is maybe the most effective way of truly teaching people valuable life skills in terms of accepting inevitable disappointments and also for learning compassion for others (as long as you're able to see and acknowledge that everyone has the same challenge with having to accept disappointments in life).

I think people who have never suffered would not be able to truly show compassion to others for their suffering cos they simply would not have a concept of "suffering" in their mind. The most they'd be able to do is think of it as a theoretical idea I think. I don't truly know "what they'd be like" though cos it would depend on a lot of things. Hopefully they would still manage to be a nice enough and decent person.

3) Is it possible to live a normal life and not ever tell a lie?
No.

Hi @Dante , thank for opening and tagging me. Hope everyone here has a beautiful Sunday! *grouphug2 I don't want to talk about health-type things, so I'll just reply to the Socks table for now and might come back later for the Philosophy one if the day goes well. ;)

1) Do you wear socks in pairs or odd socks?
Of course in pairs. I'd rather not torture my brain any more than necessary.

2) Describe your favourite pair of socks.
I have quite a few... I feel like my long plain black or white ones are softer and more comfy. I also have some with little kitties that I like a lot, and some with little skulls. :p

3) How often do you buy new socks.
These days, not much, maybe once a year 2 pairs? I'm using the covid period to wear down all my old clothes and get rid of them, that includes socks. Some have holes in them, it's terrible... *hiding

4) How many socks have you lost?
Perhaps one or two short ones haven't returned from the washing machine. I don't generally lose my socks.

5) Have you ever worn socks with sandals? (Be honest)
Perhaps as a little kid (90s fashion...), but as an adult... Are you crazy?

Health Table
It also happens to be Nurse's Week, as well as Bladder Cancer, Ehlers-Danlos, Prader-Willi, Cystic Fibrosis, Lupus, and Lime Disease awareness month.
1) How is your health today?
I have been asking myself “when will I ever get better?” To me, its the same. Whatever treatment I’ve undergo, its the same shit.

2) When was the last time you saw a doctor/nurse?
I see my therapist on 6/5 then I have appointment on 1/6 & 3/6.

3) Do you like, tolerate or hate doctors?
I can tolerate them, I’ve learned my lesson not to lash at the hospital ever again. I was damn frustrated with this healing process but either way, I’m pretty sure my doctors feels frustrated about their failure in healing me and they have given me kind gestures that “its okay for me to come back seeing them whenever there’s no improvements,” they literally admitted that “they won’t get sick of me.” Its a process

4) Are you comfortable in hospitals or hate them?
I’m used to it.

5) Do you have a long term illness and are you willing to tell us about it?
Yea long term. I’m born with it but I know about it late, it just been progressing. Mine is ‘medical trauma of hypopituitarism,’ sadly, its not pcos as symptom overlapped but if I have the willpower, I’ll share more in June about its treatment plan. I had to adjust myself to get used to it, its literally a life changing thing. Its like no warning, no lifeline, I’ve been under pressure into this all new environment that I kept talking about but never in detail. I would know, no one listens to me if I had long wall of text lol. I still knows how to enjoy life though.

Philosophy Table
Because it is never a bad time for Philosophy, feel free to answer 1 or all 3.
1) If you could guarantee honesty, what 2 questions would let you get the best idea of who a person truly is?
what?

2) Is suffering a necessary part of the human condition? What would people who never suffered be like?
They’re healthy.

3) Is it possible to live a normal life and not ever tell a lie?
No thats bullshit to me. I can’t even do a normal routine. 😂

Happy Birthday @FlamingoWrangler and @FrainBart , and thanks @Kira for bringing celebration to this sombre day of lost socks. ^^

1. Pairs. I'm not an animal. Are you serious? No. Always in pairs.
Hey! I only wear the most vibrant and garish odd socks I can find :P and I'm not an animal.

Thanks @Dante !
5) Have you ever worn socks with sandals? (Be honest)
Yes! And if people think there's something weird about this, that's their hang-up.
Well, the Romans did it I suppose...

Do you have a long term illness and are you willing to tell us about it?
- Is casually having suicidal thoughts on daily basis a long term illness? Either that or my sensitivities.
You know I never thought about it, but if mental illness is an illness (which is it) then suicidal ideation and depression both count as long-term illnesses...

4) How many socks have you lost?

None that I know of.
We salute you, friend of socks!

Sock Table:
Yes, a table about socks, wonderful isn't it?

1) Do you wear socks in pairs or odd socks?

Pairs I throw the odd ones out.
How COULD you!

Im not a fan of doctors, SO FEW of them seem to give a crap, to the point of straight-up negligence, but the majority of nurses seem to be ok, which, given my experience with the health service is really something. They DO care, and it is worth respecting and being grateful.

2) Describe your favourite pair of socks.
I have quite a few... I feel like my long plain black or white ones are softer and more comfy. I also have some with little kitties that I like a lot, and some with little skulls. :p

Daughter was due home so didn't have time to answer these earlier...

Sock Table
Yes, a table about socks, wonderful isn't it?
1) Do you wear socks in pairs or odd socks?
I'm sorry? What are these pairs you speak of? Odd socks always. Pairs are unnatural.
2) Describe your favourite pair of socks. My favourite two socks is a black with gold sparkles in it, and red with sparkly butterflies in it
3) How often do you buy new socks. Now and then... when I can't find any
4) How many socks have you lost? I haven't lost any... I just unknowingly donated them to the sock gremlins and gnomes.
5) Have you ever worn socks with sandals? (Be honest) Nope, I do not wear sandals.

Health Table
It also happens to be Nurse's Week, as well as Bladder Cancer, Ehlers-Danlos, Prader-Willi, Cystic Fibrosis, Lupus, and Lime Disease awareness month.
1) How is your health today? Mental health... Not good. Physical health.. average
2) When was the last time you saw a doctor/nurse? I spoke to my doctor 2 weeks ago. I haven't "seen" a doctor in a very long time (probably when I broke my finger) so2 years ago.
3) Do you like, tolerate or hate doctors? Some I tolerate. Some I like. Some I despise.
4) Are you comfortable in hospitals or hate them? Depends on the situation. Generally they aren't too bad. I hate being at my doctors surgery though as they have this buzzer that goes off for next person, and it is the worst, most anxiety inducing, fear inducing, panic attack inducing sound I have ever heard.
5) Do you have a long term illness and are you willing to tell us about it? Errrm Depends on what you clarify as an illness. I have problems with pain in back, hips and knees, and suspected rheumatoid arthritis

Philosophy Table
Because it is never a bad time for Philosophy, feel free to answer 1 or all 3.
1) If you could guarantee honesty, what 2 questions would let you get the best idea of who a person truly is? What hurts them so much. And what are they willing to do to get rid of that pain. (Mostly because everyone hurts, and then you can find out a persons intentions and nature by asking what they woulld be willing to do.)
2) Is suffering a necessary part of the human condition? What would people who never suffered be like? They would be naive.
3) Is it possible to live a normal life and not ever tell a lie? Normal is a non existent state. No one is normal. To us most people look normal, and to everyone else it is the same. There is no true normal.
