I think I would pick to calm down my anxiety and basically my emotions and come back to reality so basically to take care of my nervous system. Because I struggle to calm down my emotions at time, my OCD really triggers never ending trail of thoughts when stressed so I think the skill to be able to relax and get in touch with the present would help a lot

Hey @Angie, cool idea for a cafe. Thanks for opening it and for tagging me.
Sorry i'm so late in replying, yesterday sucked butt. We had a really long power cut, and a guy was in fitting the pipes for a new boiler, so we weren't able to use the bathroom most of the day. I was very low on spoonfuls of energy all day. 🫠

If you could pick up a new skill in an instant what would it be and why?

This one's hard to answer, there are so many i would want to choose. Dancing, various different instruments, applying makeup like a pro, doing my hair, doing my eyebrows...

What skill do you think everyone should have?

A lot of more generally applicable answers in this thread, but i'm gonna go with computer literacy. You can't really get by in this day and age without a working knowledge of computers, and some of the tech support horror stories i've heard astound me. It's like some people fail to grasp the fundamental concept of cause and effect the moment a computer enters the equation.

How to pirate media.

I just want to second this. There's no better argument for piracy than to just look at the abject state of the wasteland that streaming services have become. The point at which they decided to show adverts on top of charging a subscription fee, i recognised the slippery slope we're on. Similarly to @LumberJack, if it wasn't for the high risk of malware involved, i'd be pirating every movie and show by now.

Aye, i was referencing spoon theory there. I've really taken to it lately as a tool both to describe my own lack of energy/motivation sometimes, and to be more empathetic towards other people who are low on spoons themselves.

I think a cafe asking questions related to spoon theory could be a really fun idea.

As per usual...I am a day late...thanks for opening @Angie and the tag @JMG. So many wonderful responses to the questions---filled me with some inspiration and reflects my daily quote --- Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. So to the questions-
Skill would like to learn - to play the Native American flute. Through past museum colleagues who provided an introduction, I met a wonderful couple who are flute makers. I spent several hours at their home talking with them about their flute making, their family's stories and actually played a flute. It is something that I haven't given up on pursuing but a flute costs about $240 and having to teach myself...my husband not convinced I guess is the best way to put it...e.g. would end up on a shelf unused. And admit worry that he's right so why bother.

Skill everyone should have - second all responses.... for me I think proactively listening to others - showing them the respect, decency and civility with which we seek to be treated. - having the ability, patience, and empathy to be attentive to what people are saying through words, actions, body language, emotions, opinions, beliefs, deeds.

Sorry, I'm just catching up with everything now. Been having trouble keeping up with things lately. Just been so tired.

If you could pick up a new skill in an instant what would it be and why?
Would love to be able to do coding. Like computer programming or whatever. I want to learn Python at least, and whatever else might be useful.
What skill do you think everyone should have?
Reading and writing. Writing clearly can be a problem for even some fairly educated people. At my work, my one supervisor doesn't always write very well. When he has to work hands-on with patient care, his notes have sometimes been pretty bad and sloppy, to the point where I almost wondered whether he was fully literate But he apparently has a master's degree. (I love the guy anyway, and he's great at everything else he needs to do.) And then I have a coworker who wants to be a doctor eventually, and the notes she writes are chock full of jargon and overly clinical language, and she writes everything way too long, and my eyes glaze over when looking at it. And she uses extremely clinical language in situations where it's not at all appropriate. It seems like she's trying too hard to appear smart and just does *too much*

Honestly, I'm starting to believe that cable wasn't as bad as we all made it out to be. Yeah it was pricey but we got ALL the channels, the ability to record shows, On Demand, the Santa Tracker, TV games, and best of all, internet. What do we get with streaming? Just movies and shows. Movies and shows that could go away at any point. Cable was better, and we need to stop acting like it wasn't.

I can get behind that, yeah. I prefer having everything in a service's given library easily available on-demand, so i can just watch what i want when i want at all times (pending they still have it, big if), but yeah, i think the illusion that streaming is more user-friendly has been well and truly shattered at this point.
