Re: Jim's Cafe- Friday June 13th

hi coffee forums,

i am learning that keeping a tropical gecko's tank set to the right conditions is a little tricky. The temperatures are easy (i use a thermostat made for this purpose) but the humidity takes some getting used to. I am doing a 'naturalistic' style terrarium which has coco fiber (basically dirt) and sphagnum moss on the bottom which, when watered correctly, will become bio-active and decrease the need for cleanup of gecko urates. They will break down in the soil on their own. So, first couple weeks, it was too dry. I increased misting frequency, check the soil yesterday and it was swampy mess. Soaked up the excess water with big handfulls of paper towel and increased air flow through the tank, I think it's just about right now.

Gilligan, the inhabitant of the terrarium, is settling in better now. I see her out and about every so often, and she is eating regularly. She's really neat. She earned the nickname Batgirl within 2 days. Gilligan lives as though gravity is not a meaningful consideration to her lifestyle.

Hurray! One of my flowering cherry trees is trimmed. It gets harder every year. Something to do with my getting older every year. My shoulders tend to protest the chore. Have one left to do. No rush. Gotta let the shoulders rest.

Went out twice at Scrabble last night with FATHOMER (using an existing 'H') and, on the last go, getting rid of all 7 with JAILERS on a Triple Word Score - total 98 points as I could use the 'J' twice :) That felt really good, and an effort like that from me happens not more than once every 10 years, lol, so I thought it worth the posting :)

Heyroo everyone!

Just got home from the glasses place (LensCrafters) where they fixed my frames. They were bent outi of shape because I fell asleep in them. So at least that is done,

My birthday is coming up! Not planning on anything. It's just another number.

Anyway, Tommy Tom and I are off!

Have a good one!

Twocky, I wish could afford to employ a gardner. But I can barely afford the water to keep the plants green. I sometimes wonder if its worth it. But properly cared for, a lawn and garden look wonderful. Mine does not fall into that category.

afternoon coffee forums,

okay day today. received a stressful call from sister when i returned home from work. it seems she is applying to lease a car but her credit is bad. asking me to co-sign on it. i won't. will not. no matter how shitty it makes me feel. she has bad credit for a reason and she could damage my credit as well in this scenario.

ugh. family. :chargrined:

Then you need to meet your Mr Darcy who will keep you in the custom you are entitled to. I do with Claire; I totally pamper & spoil her but she is worth it

Jim's cafe June 15th

Good morning everyone! Hope you all had a good nights rest. What has everyone got planned for the day? As for me, nothing much to be honest, working tomorrow,so I may as well rest today! Might have a chinese later, I'm sure 1 chinese won't kill my diet!

another boring day here, i suppose.

sitting here wondering the point to life.

sunny outside, which makes things even worse. (because summer makes my mood worse!), so been trying to think of ways to make my room as wintery as possible

same 0 hours of rest last night too

Re: Jim's cafe June 15th

Good morning, Café! :)

Yesterday I baked cookies - tried something new with my recipe, and it worked! I ordered organic granulated maple sugar from Quebec, Canada, to make these cookies for my sister because she LOVES maple syrup/sugar flavor. So, I made Maple Sugar Shortbreads. And they worked - they're yummy, if I do say so myself! They will be my sister's birthday present! Not much on my plate today. Out this morning for a while, home for a bit, then up to sis's for a family dinner.

Music, glad you got some rest and have a quiet day! Enjoy your Chinese!

emily83, I'm sorry you didn't get a rest and that you are feeling bored. If you want winter. An adult novel, Winter's Tale, by Mark Helprin, and a young person's novel A City in Winter, by Mark Helprin (with illustrations by Chris Van Allsburg). I really love the second book a lot!

I hope everyone finds some smiles today! :D

Had my wonderful trip to NYC yesterday. Great weather, great company, I was very happy. I feel a bit let down today after having a great day.

Today is back to reality - alone, doing mundane things like laundry and cooking. I might go to work for a couple of hours (unpaid but then I have a job) but that seems to smack of being back to the same ole grind.

Acy - have a great dinner with family. They are the best dinners.
Emily - I know how you feel although I am not that low at the moment.
*music* - Enjoy your day it seems like a real nice one.

Everyone Have a great day.

Funny you should say that, *music*! I've never baked with granulated maple sugar and maple syrup before - they DO burn more easily than regular sugar! Yikes! :D

Heyroo!

I am relaxing. Need to write the response to a rhetoric piece that I read last week. Gotta get that done. October is coming fast! That's when I start classes. English 102. 1 class per term for a while, and then I take on more as needed.

Glad for all mah buddies here in the cafe! You all are fantastic!
