Aww. Thank you, sweetheart. I'm glad that I made you want to come back. I decided to message and welcome you because based on your username at the time, you seemed like someone who would have similar interests to mine, and turned out that I was spot on with that. We both like metal and Norse mythology, among other things. You're a very integral part of SF now, and very loved by many, so don't you ever go anywhere. ๐Ÿ’•
As long as one single person wants me here I can't imagine that happening. ;) I care about and got attached to real people here, they're not a distraction, they're friends. Hell I'm gonna be posting here from my flying car someday.

As far as the holidays, I don't do well through them so I try and ignore it mostly....although this year I did just volunteer to go to a geriatric rehab center on Thanksgiving day to hang out for a few hours with the clients who don't have family. It happens to be the same place my father was in for awhile during the last year of his life....we'll see.
That's awesome @Livelife ..

I volunteered a few thanksgivings at a community dinner for the homeless and it was a very rewarding experience. I hope to take my son at some point, if only to help him appreciate the life he has, and that not everyone is as fortunate as we are.

Well ... I'm late here, but fashionably late is a thing right? I really don't know these things.

1) Who was the first person you remember speaking to on SF? Was it that persons first impression that made you stay?
First person who said hello to me was @sassy123, she was greeting people in chat even way back then
First person I had a semi conversation with was @Karmitkurmit (miss him)
First person who heard my full on rambling was @crumbum (miss him too)

It's bittersweet thinking of those days. A lot people I cared about who aren't around anymore. Eh.
Definitely these three people played a role on why I came back after that first day. I stuck around this long for a variety of reasons, and yes @sassy123 is for sure one of them.

2) When you joined SF, did you think you would make it until today? Reasoning?
Nope. I never saw myself making it today. I never ever ever saw myself where I am today. So mTuch has changed in my life. Changed for the better. It's really amazing if I stop and look back. Really stop and look back hard at what my life was like when a crash landed here. When I got here I was in such a hole, and I was so desperate. I had everything planned out and I fully intended to follow through. With the support of people here I made it one day at a time and things changed.

3) I really wanted to make a thread on this but didn't want to sound like a total fool, for those of us not from the US/Canada, what is the difference between thanksgiving and Christmas, without the religious background what is done differently? Are gifts exchanged, a turkey cooked? What is the actual difference on the day itself
Thanksgiving is generally a day where people get together and eat food in the afternoon, I'm still figuring out what exactly myself. Turkey, ham, sweet potato and pies.

Christmas people do gifts and parties and dinners and decorations and trees and and and. A highly overdone overspent day crammed with food, treats and presents.

I'm not really a holiday person, so I've probably got a rare interpretation lol.

4) Who would be doing the partying/decorating if SF were a village? Who would be Mr and Mrs clause? Well, I think we all know that one ;) Who would be bringing the Champagne? Feel free to have a little fun with this question for the lol's :D Who would be kissing under the mistletoe ๐Ÿ˜
Well ... I'm going a different direction here. Per his own admission @1964dodge has got to be Mr Clause which makes his dear wife Mrs Clause (you'll have to tell her she's been nominated by proxy). @Ash600 is the alcohol king, that's just the way it is. Of course @Walker and @Freya are kissing under the mistletoe, but we better be putting it somewhere that isn't out in the open because @Freya isn't into PDA.

1) Who was the first person you remember speaking to on SF? Was it that persons first impression that made you stay?

I have no idea, actually. I got here at the same time as a few others and we all kind of joined up and hung out. Some of those people are still here like @Sunspots and the occasional @nobodyknows71 Then there's @Kira who's recently missing. Some are just gone.

2) When you joined SF, did you think you would make it until today? Reasoning?
Yeah, I never thought I wouldn't be here today. I wasn't coming here because I was going to kill myself so, not a great story but... true.

3) ...what is the difference between thanksgiving and Christmas, without the religious background what is done differently? Are gifts exchanged, a turkey cooked? What is the actual difference on the day itself
I think this has been answered pretty well... though now I'm thinking we should start exchanging gifts for Thanksgiving. Antacids, anyone?

The partiers here are clearly @Ash600 the departed HumanEx, @Aurelia and maybe @GFS . @Gonz can bring the plants.
Mr and Mrs Clause? Isn't is obvious? @Witty_Sarcasm and @Last Try
Kissing? yeah, clearly that one is the magical Freya and I

Well, if @Walker 's still replying to this 2 days after the cafรฉ opened, that must mean it's not too late for me to reply, too *stars

1) Who was the first person you remember speaking to on SF? Was it that persons first impression that made you stay?
Even though it's only been a few weeks I'd already forgotten, so I had to cheat and look it up *sfdunno Looks like @JDot was the first SFer I had any interactions with :) I'd been lurking for a while before my first post, and I've stuck around 'til now because it seems like a friendly place to be *yes

2) When you joined SF, did you think you would make it until today? Reasoning?
Yup. I wasn't suicidal when I joined, am not (very) suicidal now, but know I will be in the coming months. Looks like I'm not the only one who came to SF in this situation, based on other replies *dunno

3) ...what is the difference between thanksgiving and Christmas, without the religious background what is done differently? Are gifts exchanged, a turkey cooked? What is the actual difference on the day itself
My knowledge of Thanksgiving is limited, so I'll pass on this one *sfdunno

4) Who would be doing the partying/decorating if SF were a village? Who would be Mr and Mrs clause? Well, I think we all know that one ;) Who would be bringing the Champagne? Who would be kissing under the mistletoe
Based on my admittedly limited knowledge (again!), I'd say @Angie would be in charge of decorations, Mr. and Mrs. Clause you've already answered, no idea who'd bring the champagne...does SF have any resident alcoholics? *confused And, well, Mr. and Mrs. Clause would probably be the first to kiss under the mistletoe...after that, *dunno

...Don't think I answered this question very well *help

Damn, a whole ounce? And here I am, only buying nicks and dimes at a time. Mr. Big Spender, over there.
Well, you gotta bear a couple things in mind; I save up and get 2-3 weeks worth at a time in order to minimize the number of times I have to leave the house, and this is Cali so it costs half or less what it does everywhere else (this and avocados are the only things that are cheaper in CA).

Do you stock up on avocados as well then? :P

Yeah, I know I'm a bit late in replying to this thread, but what the hell......

1) Who was the first person you remember speaking to on SF? Was it that persons first impression that made you stay?

I remember the first message received was from @Freya , first one I spoke to was @Magree and I also remember getting a first warning over content posted from one of the mods, all within the first half hour of joining. I don't think it was just one person's first impression which made me stay, but the effect of many which convinced me to stick around, from those I met in the beginning such as @Sunspots @sassy123 @Innocent Forever @Bergerac to those I met along the way such as @Aurelia @Auri @Walker @Lotus and countless others.

2) When you joined SF, did you think you would make it until today? Reasoning?

In all honesty, when I joined, I didn't have a clue as to how long I would make it for. But at least being here, provides a stabilising effect when things are seeming rough.

3) I really wanted to make a thread on this but didn't want to sound like a total fool, for those of us not from the US/Canada, what is the difference between thanksgiving and Christmas, without the religious background what is done differently? Looks like it's already been answered, so I'll leave it be.

I can't argue with the assignments already given out, although I wouldn't mind having a crack at the tunes as well as stocking up the bar :)
