I was out making money and saw the start of a rainbow, but it wasn't even raining! I was going to stay because rainbows are lucky right? But I wanted to show it to my husband so I packed up and started walking back. No one else at the truck stop was seeing the rainbow and I wanted to share the experience so much. A guy on a Harley pulled up and he just so happened to look at me. I pointed at the rainbow. He turned off his bike and I said, "Do you see it??"
He smiled and said, "I'm the guy on the bicycle from earlier."
He had stopped and given me a couple bucks when I was standing out, but out of his cycling gear and in leather and a different helmet, I didn't recognize him. He came over and I laughed and said, "I didn't even realize it was you! I just wanted to share the rainbow!"
We talked for a second and I said, "Are you what's at the end of the rainbow?"
He said, "I might be." He told me his wife had recently died of cancer, but when she was young she had traveled and told him all kinds of crazy stories. He was happy to see someone carrying out that life and relieved when I told him I wasn't going it alone, but had my husband. (People always worry when they think I'm a girl alone on the road.) Then he gave me grain free dog treats (we happen to be kicking it with some travelers whose dogs have a grain allergy) and, on his wife's behalf, one hundred dollars.
Really it was the rainbow, and my wanting to share it, not realizing who he was. It was amazing! View attachment 10131

Haha you've brought back memories @Kalicka I'd forgotten all about the hours I used to spend as a teenager sat by the radio on a Sunday afternoon recording the UK top 40 on a tape player. I used to try to cut out all the talking without missing the end of the songs. I never got it right!!

@Woowoo that's exactly what me and my brother used to do, must have got around 6-7 yrs worth of taped music off the radio.

He was just my type. Happy to play his music all day long. I always wanted Coco and himself to get together!! Doris was a great singer but God she was hugely annoying by times!!

I actually saw Erica Gimpel at a gig here in Vicar Street. She hasn't changed at all. I didn't have the nerve to approach her though. Kicking myself ever since!!

Love that story!!!

I'm way after the days of record players.
I grew up with tape recorders - you know the big boxes that you press radio on too, and were really newfangled and expensive. Then we eventually got smaller tape recorders, and finally *gasp a tape recorder that had a cd player on top!!!
Memories........
Although you'll all laugh at my memories for tape recorders will be new to you not old :)
I never bought any singles.....

Hi all and thank you for the invites as usual. I'm very late, I know, but I am desperately trying to distract myself :(

I honestly couldn't say what the first single I bought was...I would imagine it was something on tape, maybe Bon Jovi...but I know one of the singles ever bought for me was on vinyl and it was Do The Bartman! LMFAO! o_O:D

I'm not sure what the cutoff age is for this, but I'm 35 and distinctly remember recording things to tape from the radio by utilising the tumble drier that was in my bedroom at the time! The result sounded a little tinny but the insulated drier helped to protect my recordings from stray voices...usually from people shouting at me after I'd done something wrong :rolleyes: The last song I remember recording (to miniature Dictaphone tape so that I could play it too and from school in my top pocket, how cool was I!? :cool:) was Saturday Night by Whigfield! :p Oh the memories...horrifying :confused:;)

And of course the mandatory hog, this time with a musical theme:

My dad always thought singles were a waste of money so I was never allowed them until I was earning. I therefore didn't buy my first single until I was 15. The first song I remember really liking was Karma Chameleon by Culture Club. I found the lyrics in a magazine and would sing it all the time.

My first album was a present when I was about 9 years old. It was Make it Big by Wham. It came with a free poster which took pride of place on my bedroom wall!
