The table to discuss that most essential piece of Hitch-Hiker's kit.
1) Do YOU know where your towel is?
My towel is hanging in the closet drying after my morning shower.
2) What kind of towel do you use?
It is large, green (my favorite color) terry cloth towel.
3) Either describe or share with us a photo of your towel.
Described above.
4) What is the most creative use you have put your towel to?
I have not been creative with my towel; the only thing I have used it for is drying myself. If I was to get creative with a towel, I would use my other towel that is the same as the first.
5) If money was no object, what is your dream towel?
My towel now is perfect, I want nothing else

Yes but it has been years since I read it. I was not a fan of the movie, I thought it was terrible.

1) Where is the furthest and wildest place you have been?
Would have to be Isle Royale. I spent a week there backpacking, my first backpacking trip, I spent months preparing for it and it went very well. If I fell and broke a leg there I would be lucky to get out alive. My friend and I could sometimes hear the wolves howling at night.
2) Have you ever ACTUALLY hitch-hiked?
Yes, a few times in Northern Michigan I would take my canoe miles down river and then hitch a ride back to my car. I always had good luck with it there, I would always carry my fishing rod with me so people were more open to pick up a fishermen, less likely a serial killer. People there were very friendly, always made conversation about the river and fishing, their lives in this remote area. This was on the Manistee or Little Manistee or AuSable rivers.
3) What survival gadget did you find the most useful when roaming the world or the wilds?
A water filter is an absolute must have, you can get very sick without one.
4) What is your best adventure story?
Dad and I took his boat to the Manistee river salmon fishing. After spending the day on the water we stopped at a small diner in Wellston, a tiny little gathering of houses, a bait shop, one gas station, and two restaurants. Dad talks to the server the whole meal and she politely listens to him and is friendly. He leaves her a $1 tip, standard for him; the tip is $1. I left her a $5 bill and dad saw it. We went out to the van and got in and he just sat there quiet for like a whole minute. Finally he turned and looked at me and said "Did you leave her a $5 tip?" He has passed away now years ago but I will never forget that.
5) Where are you planning to go next, tell us about it.
I would like to spend a weekend this summer with my friend camping on the AuSable river in one of the state forest campgrounds where all they have is a pump to get fresh water and a pit toilet.

One time I worked at a company where we designed chips- the black things in your cell phone that makes it work. We got sold and had to find new offices. As we were packing some one posted a sign: “so long and thanks for all the chips “. Believe it or not I was one of the few that recognized the phrase despite my apathetic view of the series.

Either Svalbard (northernmost permanently inhabited place) or Borneo.
2) Have you ever ACTUALLY hitch-hiked?
All the time when I was a teenager. Mum would give me my bus fare to school but I'd hitch and spend the money on cigarettes.
3) What survival gadget did you find the most useful when roaming the world or the wilds?
A torch
4) What is your best adventure story?
Dog sledding in Svalbard. Falling off, breaking my nose and watching my dogs racing off into the distance not realising I was no longer in control. Luckily the guide eventually realised I was no longer with them and came back to find me.
5) Where are you planning to go next, tell us about it.
I'd love to go back to Svalbard in the spring when the sun finally appears again but there's still snow on the ground so we can still travel around - there's no roads.

TV would slightly edge it, as that's how I first encountered it. Though the books would follow a damn close second.

Yes. I'm celebrating by allowing my babel fish to stretch out and have a picnic whilst sitting on it.

- I once went to my city's Museum of Arts out of boredom. It was a nice change of view. The focus of the museum seemed to be around modern era artworks, like during Vietnam War or so. A fun fact is that the museum used to be a mansion belonged to one of the riches man in my country during the French colonial era.
Where are you planning to go next, tell us about it.
- There is an outbreak of COVID in my city, I'm not allowed to travel anywhere further from the city.

I happen to have more than one, but yes, I keep them in three different places.
2) What kind of towel do you use?
Regular big rectangular towel. :p
3) Either describe or share with us a photo of your towel.
This one is my favourite (folded in 4).
Not so much for the colour as because of its quality. It has a normal towel side, and a much softer one, and it doesn't seem to lose its quality. (Photo taken right after using it, so it doesn't look as glorious. :p)

That is a secret.
5) If money was no object, what is your dream towel?
An extra-soft, black and glittery one that makes me sparkle after using it.

Yes, I remember once when I was 17, somewhere in Spain.

I can't come up with any gadget, I only carry the typical practical things.

Perhaps that hot Summer day when we ended up under this heavy rain and Alpine thunderstorm in Austria. Fun and scary at the same time. Great times.

2) What kind of towel do you use? Just a regular bath towel from Walmart or something.
3) Either describe or share with us a photo of your towel. My main towel is just yellow, then I also use a towel my roommate's gf took from a hotel for my hair because the red dye kinda bleeds a little. That one is plain white (with red hair dye stains)
4) What is the most creative use you have put your towel to? Nothing really special.

1) Are you a fan of The Hitchhiker's Guide? yes!!!!!!!! I used to be totally obsessed. My sister made me a shirt when I was younger that said "Don't Panic!" and 42 on it, plus a patch with a picture of a robot. I don't have it anymore, but it was an awesome gift.
2) What is your favourite adaptation of the story? (Radio, Book, TV...) The book is the only one I've ever really bothered with, so far. I plan on looking up the others at some point. I've read all the books except And Another Thing... which is the one by Eoin Colfer, so I kinda don't count it. I feel like the series mostly decreased in quality over the course of the 5 actual Douglas Adams books to the point where I thought Mostly Harmless was pretty bad.

1) Where is the furthest and wildest place you have been? The furthest I ever traveled was from San Francisco to Sweden (Gothenburg, Uddevalla, and Stockholm.) Wasn't particularly wild though.
2) Have you ever ACTUALLY hitch-hiked? Not exactly. I never actually set out to hitchhike, but I have gotten offered rides from strangers a few times when I was walking 2 miles from the bus stop to the motel where I was living in the dark on a street with no sidewalks. I used to have one similar to this that my grandma sent me for my birthday as a teenager. But I wasn't able to bring it with me when I moved to San Francisco because I had limited space in my bags. I currently just have a paperback copy of the first book.
Towel Table

1) Do YOU know where your towel is? Yes, it's hung on the side of the hamper that holds my laundry bag.
2) What kind of towel do you use? Just a regular bath towel from Walmart or something.
3) Either describe or share with us a photo of your towel. My main towel is just yellow, then I also use a towel my roommate's gf took from a hotel for my hair because the red dye kinda bleeds a little. That one is plain white (with red hair dye stains)
4) What is the most creative use you have put your towel to? Nothing really special.
5) If money was no object, what is your dream towel? Probably something related to a favorite team.
Hitch Hiker's Guide Table
A table for the discussion of that most wholly remarkable franchise, spanning Radio, Books, TV, Merchandise, Stage appearances and more (But we dont mention the film).
1) Are you a fan of The Hitchhiker's Guide? yes!!!!!!!! I used to be totally obsessed. My sister made me a shirt when I was younger that said "Don't Panic!" and 42 on it, plus a patch with a picture of a robot. I don't have it anymore, but it was an awesome gift.
2) What is your favourite adaptation of the story? (Radio, Book, TV...) The book is the only one I've ever really bothered with, so far. I plan on looking up the others at some point. I've read all the books except And Another Thing... which is the one by Eoin Colfer, so I kinda don't count it. I feel like the series mostly decreased in quality over the course of the 5 actual Douglas Adams books to the point where I thought Mostly Harmless was pretty bad.
3) Are you personally celebrating Towel Day today? I always forget about it :/
4) When was the last time you enjoyed The Hitchhiker's Guide in any format? Probably been a year or two.
5) What is your favourite quote/scene/moment from the franchise? Most parts with Marvin. He's my favorite character.

1) Where is the furthest and wildest place you have been? The furthest I ever traveled was from San Francisco to Sweden (Gothenburg, Uddevalla, and Stockholm.) Wasn't particularly wild though.
2) Have you ever ACTUALLY hitch-hiked? Not exactly. I never actually set out to hitchhike, but I have gotten offered rides from strangers a few times when I was walking 2 miles from the bus stop to the motel where I was living in the dark on a street with no sidewalks. I am a huge fan of towels...I have them everywhere for every utilitarian reason. Cleaning me, the dogs, the house, the car, the dishes and more ad nauseum.
I was not aware of this Guide....it made me think of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance for some reason.
I hitchhiked a lot in the 70's, across country once. And in foreign countries back then as well. Lots of stories around all that.
I want to go to Hawaii.....never been and would like to find out if it is a place to be able to live comfortably not being a millionaire.
