1. Do you make new years resolutions? If yes, what are some you have for this year?

I never have except live a bit healthier, more exercise and sleep are always on the agenda.

2. Did you do anything special for new years (ie go out somewhere to celebrate, to a party, etc...)?

Had my family over and cooked for all of us. The recipe sounded like something Granny would feed the Clampetts on The Beverly Hillbillies. LOL

3. Have you ever done anything special to celebrate new years?

Relaxed and napped a bit.

4. What is something positive you are grateful for so far this year?

Possibilities of where the breeze takes me.

5. Do you have anything special planned this week and/or weekend? Or anything else you want to talk about?

Nothing special so far.

1. Do you make new years resolutions? If yes, what are some you have for this year?

I personally didn't make new years resolutions. I have come to realise that each year is unpredictable and my "long term goals" are not limited to one year. I prefer making goals on a daily basis to be honest, one step at a time.

2. Did you do anything special for new years (ie go out somewhere to celebrate, to a party, etc...)?

I did go out with my sister and we had some Chinese food. We also took some pictures of the decors put up for New years.

3. Have you ever done anything special to celebrate new years?

Hm nothing really extravagent, it's always been a mostly average day, although I do usually hand make some cards or gifts and send to my friends or family.

4. What is something positive you are grateful for so far this year?

It technically didn't happen yet as it's still upcoming, but I will have a mid term break soon (next month).

5. Do you have anything special planned this week and/or weekend? Or anything else you want to talk about?

No not really, I have a bunch of lessons and tests I need to do.

The responses were probably typed in the colour "white", which is visible when using the Dark Theme of SF. :) To avoid that issue, Fogo, instead of "white", select the last one with a little rubber on it. It "erases" any colour and sets it to the standard one of each Theme (white for the Dark Theme, black for the Standard Theme, etc.). :)

Thank you @JMG for opening the New Year's discussion. Happy New Year to you too!

1. Do you make New Year's resolutions? Not really; it's more like I "look ahead" into the year, look at where I am now, and pick a few things I want to accomplish in the New Year. Note that there is a subconscious resolve to stay alive another year. It's my stated default: stay alive, no matter what.
I resolve to get a job or sustainable income stream going in my little world this year. Since there is every likelihood that will manifest early in the year; then I resolve to settle into a new job as the "new me," post-COVID and adjusting to the new normal, which takes more grit and resolve than may seem necessary.

If yes, what are some you have for this year? More exercise, especially weight lifting, rearrange my space to reflect the "new me." One of my nieces and I resolved to see each other this year. So that's something to look forward to, too!

2. Did you do anything special for New Years (i.e., go out somewhere to celebrate, to a party, etc...)? No. Was intentionally home snuggled-in and eating delicious Thai food. Had a very mellow weekend. I really liked the quiet start of the New Year.

3. Have you ever done anything special to celebrate New Years? In 2001 I was in Egypt and inside the Great Pyramid on January 1. In fact, I have the very first ticket issued that day for entry into the Great Pyramid. It was an extraordinary way to spend the New Year's. I intentionally planned my trip so I would be in Cairo over the New Year.

4. What is something positive you are grateful for so far this year? I am grateful I actually made it to the New Year. November and December were very rough months for me.

I am very grateful I found this forum. I actually really rely on the forum and the different conversations and community here. Not in an unhealthy way (I don't think!), but more in the sense that we all belong to a club not everyone joins; yet, here we are, able to share with each and connect and support--which is something each of us really needs for the darkness we share. I find that really, really amazing and am really grateful for this forum and the kind, compassionate, supportive voices here.

5. Do you have anything special planned this week and/or weekend? Or anything else you want to talk about? I plan to continue eating well each day. I plan to continue remaining sober from alcohol. I feel like this first week of the New Year, everyone is adjusting in large and small ways--and the never-ending pandemic continues to affect individuals across the world stage. I hope 2022 brings some stability, sustainable income, and new friends and expanded interest in the things that feel my soul.

Happy New Year!

As an Egyptian I find it a bit humorous that you saw the pyramids while I, a native have never seen them before. I am glad you enjoyed your stay though! I agree, I am new here but I find already find this forum pretty nice. Good luck with all your goals and I wish you a nice 2022 as well. Take care.

@Fogo_ , I find that utterly amazing! I feel really drawn to places though to visit them (Egypt, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls--there are others I want to see too. Egypt is the very cradle of civilization. I have this huge dream of living in Greece and traveling all over the Mediterranean to various locations there. That would be the dream!!

I loved Egypt. I seriously thought about expatriating when I came back so I could move to Cairo. I would still love to live in Cairo. I really liked the Egyptian people too. Very warm and from-the-heart people.

Anyway, Happy New Year! And I hope you get to visit the Giza Plateau someday. :)

Ok gonna reply to a few diff. people's posts in this, sorry I know I could break it up into individual posts but can't be bothered so here it is. PS - Tysm to EVERYONE who's replied here though, I've very much enjoyed reading everyone's answers! :) *hug*grouphug2

You cannot leave it at that! Come on... Spill... 😂
Lol! Thank you for saying this, I was wondering too but esp. these days I'm just too worried about my post being ignored so I generally refrain a lot more from bothering to ask people about anything or even comment on what they say a lot of the time, even if I think of things I want to say or ask about. Feels like I'm just annoying people anyway and that they maybe wish I'd not bothered, so I'm trying to just keep that in mind a lot more.

Thanks so much for the tag @JMG :)

5. Do you have anything special planned this week and/or weekend? Or anything else you want to talk about?
Stupidly I volunteered to work at the vaccine clinic all weekend
Yw for the tag, and just wanted to say I don't think it's ever "stupid" to volunteer so I hope that isn't a true reflection of how you feel about doing that. I realize it is probably just more frustration that you have to do that that caused you to use the word "stupidly" to describe that decision, but anyway just wanted to say I don't think it's stupid at all and I think it's a very good, kind and generous thing you'll be doing, so congrats on that! :)

2. Did you do anything special for new years (ie go out somewhere to celebrate, to a party, etc...)?
Well I had covid, so... nope. ^^ I drank a coke while on a video call, and I spent some time in chat, we played skribble. :)

4. What is something positive you are grateful for so far this year?
I'm alive, I'm loved, the world still exists. (I would add "I'm healthy", but this post-covid cough hasn't stopped yet *huh)

5. Do you have anything special planned this week and/or weekend? Or anything else you want to talk about?
I should be allowed to get out of self-isolation this weekend if I have no symptoms anymore, but as I said in question 3, still coughing... *dunno
So sorry to hear you had Covid Auri, wow that sux. I'm glad to hear you say it in past tense though (aside from still coughing) and I hope the cough ends soon and that you feel back to yourself. The only good thing about being sick imo is when you are better again, for me omg it's just such a total relief. Always hoping to "never be sick again" of course lol, totally unrealistic but that doesn't stop me a single bit from wishing for it with all my might :p

That makes me think of when I tell folks never eat the peanuts at a stripper bar, just imagine where the hands have been that were in the bowl at some time. People ask me how I know and I just off "When I was younger and needed the money..." and they offer to pay me to shut up. :)
Umm...wtf? I don't know why this is here (the quote I mean, not what you said lol) I think I was just gonna say "lol" or something I guess....ugh...sorry...guess I have some kinda new year's brain problem going on or something :p

Same here, I was always wanted to travel around but I sadly currently don't have the finances for it. I would like to see Greece and maybe even Japan some day, there's so much to see and explore, and each country has its fair share of culture and history. I am actually from Cairo as well, and my dad has visited Greece, I heard it's a beautiful place with a lot of greenery, would love to see it one day for myself.

Many Egyptians would be honoured and happy to have you visit our country, so feel free to come back whenever. It makes me happy that you were able to have a good time in my country and good interactions with its people! Happy new year :)

1. Do you make new years resolutions? If yes, what are some you have for this year?
Not exactly. All I know is that the present situation is not tenable and must change or else... so there's mainly just the hope of change for something tenable before impending doom is materialized.

2. Did you do anything special for new years (ie go out somewhere to celebrate, to a party, etc...)?
Not really. Everyone I know just sleeps through it. I join them after a couple more drinks or perhaps even more than a couple, sadly enough 😥

3. Have you ever done anything special to celebrate new years?
I went to Times Square many years ago at least a couple times. I saw the ball drop (and no, it wasn't the Chicago White Sox for a change!) Even once for a friend's brother's wedding they had arranged at some nearby joint.

4. What is something positive you are grateful for so far this year?

This situation will change to something better, one way or another.

5. Do you have anything special planned this week and/or weekend? Or anything else you want to talk about?

First week of January? Perhaps the worst week of the year, even if other weeks aren't exactly all that much better. I just let the time pass. Things must change, one way or another.

4. What is something positive you are grateful for so far this year?
Lots of things but especially the nice gifts my friend gave me the other day, my cat, mom, sis, Netflix, my iphone, the net, nature, art, beautiful pics and beautiful things in general.
Now you're talking my world: nature, art, beautiful pics and beautiful things in general. Beauty adds beauty to the world. I think we need more of that all around. :)

thank you for opening and inviting me @JMG . now for the questions

1. new years resolution : i don't make them anymore for obvious reasons

2. what i did for new years : nothing didn't even watch the ball go down lol

3. ever done anything to celebrate new years : when we were young we had friends over for drinks a few times, then we got a little older and spent time together and watched new years specials until midnight, then we got much older and went to bed but got up before midnight to say happy new year to each other, now we are OLD so we go to bed early and don't bother lol

4. something grateful for : my landlord isn't greedy. there is an affordable housing crises so apartments are expensive, my land lord only made one minor increase in 5 years.

5. plans this week : nothing much. hopefully get a few things done around the house.

mike
