I know annoying isn't it? You only have 10mins to edit after posting. I obviously didn't make the cut. I quoted my own reply!... God help me:eek: I must have caught your analysis paralysis !! I must go rest

It is! I remember when I first joined this site during the Stone Age (circa 2005), you were able to go back and edit posts no matter how old they were (unless they were purged). Hell, I remember one time I went back and edited a post I made about 2 years later after I made despite nobody probably would've even seen it or cared to see it. But I really miss the old SF, you were able to do some things that aren't even available anymore. Plus I hate the character limit - very irritating especially if you're keeping a diary and you're forced to make heavy edits and cuts. Drives me even more nuts knowing I can't fix typos or grammatical errors I've made.

*puts a cold compress on your forehead to help relieve the paralysis* Give it a few minutes, it'll go away soon, I promise. If anyone needs a doctor, then I'm a certified forum doctor ready to tend to any forum ailments anyone is suffering from! *shows off degree*

(This isn't a real PhD. And I'm not really a doctor. I play one on the internet.)

I didn't know there were character limits....
If I remember right, originally you had about a limit of 100,000 characters. The number may a bit inaccurate, but you could get away with practically typing a novella in a post in the past, but after SF went through the big change a few years ago I instantly noticed the character count was dramatically reduced for some reason.

You could also rate topics ranging from 1 to 5 stars. That was removed also. Plus you could make special themed groups and invite other SF users to join them. That was removed too! You could even create private message "receipts" (now they call PM's "conversations") to check if the receiving user read the message or not. There was no such thing as "likes", just quote and reply.

Back then also, I had accidentally discovered a small trick to bypass having your posts locked from edited. If I made a post in my diary, I would leave the original tab open so that the edit option was still there in my post. So if I happened to proof-read something I posted on a new tab, I could just go back to the original tab, and edit the post because I left the page open. I could be wrong now on this, but I believe as long as you did this, you didn't have to worry about any timer.

And I still remember when it came to the Member's Diary section, only the person who made the topic could reply to their own posts. No one else could post in people's diaries. I was surprised to realized after SF's changes that other users were allowed to do so.

Damn, I'm old as dirt if I still remember these things, LOL! Let me stop before I start telling you guys about the time when Jesus visited the forum... and I doubt ya'll would wanna hear about THAT.

:) I'm not sure that with the changes since then there are character limits anymore...
trust you to figure how to bypass anything....
That's why there are 2 member diary sections.... those that can be replied to, those that can't. And why there's an introduction before it telling to reply only if the person wants. Do you want replies to your diary??
Oh gosh, you saw Jesus visiting the forum? Were you there when Buddha came?

Actually I kinda did notice the last time I was able to type a lot more than usual with the last diary entry I made. Guess I'll know next time if I happen to type too much and I might be forced to split posts. :p (I don't mind diary replies at all).

When Jesus had dropped by that brief time, we weren't even allowed to make actual posts - just verses only. If you didn't at least log in every Sunday you would have your account sent to purgatory, and the smilies were all icons of all the animals that were on Noah's Ark. Sadly I missed it when Buddha came, I didn't have time to shave my head - monastics were running around everywhere...

SF went through menopause a few years ago? Lol sorry I couldn't help myself
LOL!!! As old as this place is, it'll probably go through Alzheimer's sooner or later! :p
