I didn't know there were character limits....
If I remember right, originally you had about a limit of 100,000 characters. The number may a bit inaccurate, but you could get away with practically typing a novella in a post in the past, but after SF went through the big change a few years ago I instantly noticed the character count was dramatically reduced for some reason.
You could also rate topics ranging from 1 to 5 stars. That was removed also. Plus you could make special themed groups and invite other SF users to join them. That was removed too! You could even create private message "receipts" (now they call PM's "conversations") to check if the receiving user read the message or not. There was no such thing as "likes", just quote and reply.
Back then also, I had accidentally discovered a small trick to bypass having your posts locked from edited. If I made a post in my diary, I would leave the original tab open so that the edit option was still there in my post. So if I happened to proof-read something I posted on a new tab, I could just go back to the original tab, and edit the post because I left the page open. I could be wrong now on this, but I believe as long as you did this, you didn't have to worry about any timer.
And I still remember when it came to the Member's Diary section, only the person who made the topic could reply to their own posts. No one else could post in people's diaries. I was surprised to realized after SF's changes that other users were allowed to do so.
Damn, I'm old as dirt if I still remember these things, LOL! Let me stop before I start telling you guys about the time when Jesus visited the forum... and I doubt ya'll would wanna hear about THAT.
