Its been 13 years for me since my dad died, and I still have a moment alone for him. you've expressed yourself so beautifully throughout this post, and at such a special time, it actually did me good to realize that I'm not alone in the lessening grief. I found the first couple of years brutal, not the expected days but the flashes were so so hard. Now I'm going through the same first year since my mom died, knowledge doesn't make it easier but a bit more acceptable. I am an only, and was a big time daddys girl, and being in my early 50's (gasp) hasn't changed that. I think as long as we keep those remembrances alive for our kids, keeps their spirits around for when we need them.

Today makes three years since I laid my dad to rest and the pain and feelings of guilt are no less now than the were then. There are nights I see him in my dreams and he reaches his hand out to me and says it is okay for me to come home. He is waiting there with my grandparents and the rest of my family and friends. It would be so easy...

[QUOTE It would be so easy...[/QUOTE]
It would be so soon, he would tell you that.
I hear how hard it is for you, but I have to point out that
he will wait for you and he would love you to tell all about him to your
children and grandchildren when the time comes.
The love you feel for him is an inspiration for your own children, I think,
and you are just like him, as far as I know you.
So give everyone around you the chance to experience that gift of
gentle, compassionated and supportive heart you might have inheritated
from the lovely man you described and whom you proudly call father.
Take care of you dear, your too precious to be lost

:hug:Oh, corrina, that is the depression talking. Have you mentioned these dreams to your pdoc? To your father, time means nothing, he can patiently wait for you to live out your life. Then when you get where he is you can tell him about everything you did while you were apart. anniverseries bring on strong feelings but you will be fine. I'm pulling for you.
With love from Melanie

Five years now. Have things gotten easier? In some senses, yes. I still have great feelings of guilt over not having the chance to say the words he should have heard before his passing. I still have moments when the tears fill my eyes and spill over as the thoughts come out of nowhere. But it happens with less frequency, or maybe it is simply that I am better able to deal with them and push them away. I know I will never stop missing him. I have forgotten the sound of his voice and the joyful sounds of his laughter. I am afraid I will lose the memory of him all together. :blub:
Merry Christmas, daddy. Wherever you are. I love and miss you.
