Empathy Only One reason to live

I ask for a reason to live. 2 years and a half, I have been living with a false promise, a lie that I tell myself to keep moving on, as there can be a chance that everything would be better somehow. It doesn't,

What would you say? For the sake of others, just because they know me at some point in their lives? For the god I once believed in? For a greater purpose pushed into me since birth? For whatever this concept of a well-lived life? For whatever you thought, I have done the same. All reasons have faded away, soon with the person that is typing all this, but with anything left of a logical mind, I made this thread, to cry <edit - timeline>

Hey John sorry you are struggling so much.
I know how hard it is to find a reason to stay, I really do.

Honestly, the only reason keeping me alive is my parents. As for concept of a well-lived life, I find that easy to give up on when day after day you feel crap and disappointed.

I hope theres a way somehow you can find joy in this life, or a reason to live besides living for others. I have not found it myself, so theres not many suggestions.

Just know we are here for you

Well, one reason for living is simple: we are alive. Ending one's life is not easy. There is always a new day, a new dawn where we can start fresh and try to find meaning in our lives, create goals for ourselves, and reach out to others. We're here, so why not try and try and try until we might just get it right? Yes, life is often painful but there is no guarantee death is an end to that. When I was suicidal one thing that actually helped me decide not to end my life was the possibility that there is nothing beyond death at all. No peace. No rest. Just nothing.

Ending the pain also means ending any chances we have to fulfill the meaning or purpose we have created for ourselves. Today, for instance, I published a fiction story that will be read by many, and may touch them and give them some peace. Often doing something altruistic, or even with a touch of altruism, is one of the most fulfilling goals.

I have a strange view that not many seem to share, that life overall is half good or positive, and half bad or negative, with many shades in between. Not that each person's life is equally 50/50 but that overall reality tends towards a balance. Almost like the Zoroastrian idea of a good God and an evil God, and that the cosmos is a constant war between them.

Family is a big reason to stay. By family, I do not just mean blood relatives. I also mean the people we care for such as friends and SF. Another thing that keeps me here is thinking of all the music and movies I would miss if I died before my time. For all I know, I haven't seen my favorite movie yet.

I found some free counseling lines today by volunteer doctors, but they can be quite busy in a time like this. I'm not the only one asking for help, apparently.

@Lady Wolfshead, that's the void I'm looking for. I don't feel welcome into lives, despite all the claimed "best" I have done as efforts to make it through days and nights. I am more fictional than me and you might have thought of.

@JDot and @iloverachel, my enjoyment in various things fade away gradually, and I feel foreign to everyone, especially me, and outsider, to be honest.

Then again, I just want the pain to end, and I can only see death as the best option, so a thread to ask for a reason to live that can convince me again, to stay.

I don't really know you so won't repeat all the answers that others may have already suggested; it's hard to pinpoint another person's reason to live. Just commenting to let you know you're being heard, you do matter. I'm sorry you're hurting so much and hope you keep reaching out here, making connections with people. It's always felt to me like here, connections seem to have more meaning than in other places online just because of the shared bond, the reasons behind why people are here.

we want whatever it is, that makes us what we are, too belong to us, you are a divine being, you matter, you count, you come from realms of unimaginable power and light, and you will return to those realms. we want unlimited power at our fingertips to be all knowing and immortal and live forever with everything we could ever need time will tell if we are the gods now.
