i'm sorry that your pain is so high. i do understand because i also live in a high pain from 5 normally to spikes hitting 10 with meds. is there anything you can do to help with the pain? sometimes going to the er they think a person is a drug seeker so it's better to get meds from your doctor. feel free to use my inbox anytime you want to talk or vent.

It's usually only opiates that are hard to get, and opiates aren't very effective for my particular type of pain. Part of my pain is multiple severe cervical nerve neuralgias, which are nicknamed in the medical world as "the suicide disease" because if it's bad, it's unbearable and often doesn't respond to painkillers. My other pain is several macerated joints that can't bear weight very well, and may not be fixable with surgery.

I have some meds that can effectively take the edge off, but they make me cognitively useless, and my issue with the pain is that I can't think. Also, the drugs only work for about 6 hours, and I can't take them very often, but when I have severe pain, it usually goes on 24/7 for 2-6 weeks uninterrupted.

I never know when it will happen, how long it will last, or how long I'll have before the next episode.

a 6 so only a little high for me. at least i beat my battle with depression caused by pain. even with depression meds it took me 18 years to get better, i know i'm a slow learner lol. i will always try to lower my pain to a point that i can still live my life at least a little.

6 is high. Don't diminish that.
It's impossible to accept a life of pain without respecting the severity of that pain and just how limiting it is.

You can't accept a life with pain without mourning the loss of your pain free life.

i'm sorry to hear that. is mmj legal where you live? i have a mmj license and i use edibles to help with the pain. it doesn't do a lot but it does help. there are a lot of nonopioids that can work with pain, i'm not sure if they would help you or not. but please don't give up, you may be able to get better in the future.

i do accept and respect my pain and how much it limits me but my average is 5 so a 6 is livable. once i hit 7or higher i have to treat it aggessively. thank you.

Cannabis is legal here, but it's not very effective for me. Incidentally, I'm a chronic pain specialist, so I have a lot more access to treatments and specialists than most people do.

I won't give up without trying literally everything, but I've been at this for a very, very long time, and am quite realistic about what my options are.

i didn't realie that. being a pain specialist is good because you know all of your options but bad in the context of you know what probably will or won't work. i hope you can find something that helps.

Oh, it's definitely good.

My spouse is always commenting on how it's crazy how much knowledge and access I have, and it's still hard for me to get decent care. I can't even imagine how challenging it is for non-doctors dealing with complex health issues.

The medical system is NOT good with pain.

Bad nights sleep, half of sleep on couch. Woke this morning and by 10:30am neck and upper back pain at an 8.5, have managed to get it down to 6 with my extra pain meds but feeling down. I hate pain!
Really hope it's just from sleeping funny. Have feelings of dread that this is my new normal. Since surgery I've had hardly any pain and now this. *blue

i hope your pain is better now. if the surgery helped then this is probably just an aggravation to the injury most likely like you said by sleeping wrong. if it continues please call your doctor because you need to try to keep the pain as low as possible.
